So I just got off the phone with VZW Customer Service (800) 922-0204. There was a small 4G outage of approximately 14 states at about 1PM EST. Verizon has shut down the entire 4G network nationwide to fix the problem......(they have no idea what it is right now). When I asked "Mike" the CSR for an ETA I was given the answer of "1hour to days." He then told me if the 4G network was not up by FRIDAY, (Hmmmmm long outage) to call back. I then explained that if the network was down for an extended period of time, how did Verizon plan on compensating us for paying for a premium service that was unusable? His response, "We would figure something out, right now our main concern is getting to the root of the outage and fixing it." He was professional and considerate during the conversation and answered all my questions. So I guess it is sit back and wait until the network is up and running........think of it as throw back day, everyone has a great $250 :-$ flip phone running on edge :'(.....lol....cheers!!!!!

Dial ##778# and hit send
A pop-up window named EPST will show up giving you 2 choices: View Mode and Edit Mode. Pick: Edit Mode.
Enter the Password: 000000
Go down to Modem Settings and pick “Rev A“
You’ll want to choose enable and click OK, hit the menu button and then press “Commit Modifications.”
Restart your phone and you should see 3G is working

last step (may not be required if you get 3G after restart)

dial *#*#4636#*#* then set preferred network type to CDMA auto (PRL) ---will stop phone from looking for LTE signal

I hope this helps anyone that is left in the dark by this outage.

If you are running a non-stock dialer or a rom that included a dialer it may prevent you from entering settings. Flash this zip to go back to stock dialer

You're not paying a premium for 4G, lol. You're still paying $29.99. Hope it's fixed soon though!

And before everyone starts flaming and saying there are umpteen threads regarding this topic, I wanted to give a very detailed recap of the conversation I had with the CSR.....could not find any specific details regarding it...so sorry if it is redundant....again cheers....

we didnt pay anything more for 4G for that 'premium service'
how do you expect them to compensate you?

go read the forums, bring your phone back up to 3G. its usable. we've just been spoiled by LTE

No flaming, just messing, but if that is the case a more appropriate title like "My 4g Outage Story" would have been a little better than "Nation wide 4g outage!!!!!" ;) Just saying.

Interesting, I thought I paid $250 on a 2year contract for THE ONLY PHONE CURRENTLY able to run on the VERIZON 4G NETWORK......call me crazy, but I have not seen any phone sold for that much on a two year contract.....that has the capabilities that this phone has.....must have fell and bumped my head....Thanks for clearing that up for me...

Not flaming, just giving you a hard time.

But yeah, there are a handful of other CSR conversations posted in the various 1x/outage threads... we've just blown said threads up so fast that they're getting buried. We're a passionate bunch.

You paid $50 for a 32GB SD card, $199 for the phone.

Not talking about the price for the data, but the tool that actually uses that data at advertised speeds.....if it is not cosidered premium, why did you waste your money on a 4G phone, you were spending exactly the same amount prior to 4G being rolled out right??? Just some food for thought....;)

If that is how you figure it cool, but when I bought my bolt, it was in one box, and the sd card was installed to the phone already.....not sold separately.....I bought my THUNDERBOLT PHONE for $250 plus tax, not $199 for the phone, and $50 for the sd card..just saying...maybe you did..lol....

Interesting theory. But most folks who bought the Thunderbolt are not in a 4G area. There are many reason to buy this phone.

32 memory card
FFC
Updated processor
New Sense

I got it because of Sense and the big screen. I needed the SD card too. My 2GB card was full!

Then again, I got my NE2 discount and a work discount. So I didn't pay what you did. I would have though. It's a great device whether in 3 or 4G!

Last time I checked, the $29.99 I am paying for is listed as 4G Data. If they're not serving that in a 4G area, then I'm entitled to a credit. End of story.
