Forgive me for being totally out of the loop on Verizon's practices. I haven't had a contract with them for years, ever since they dropped the UDP I have just been buying used phones and activating them on my very old nationwide 450 plan with unlimited data.

I'm at the point financially now where I can afford to just buy a phone, don't need to put it on payments via Edge or the other similar offerings from other companies. I was just going to buy an LG G4 to replace my G2 that I bought from Swappa about a year ago. Funny thing is though, when I go onto VZW website and setup to buy the phone, it shows that they will no longer charge me a data plan charge ($29.99). So my future bill would be dropping considerably, basically enough to cover the cost of the new phone in about about 18 months.

It still lists "Unlimited Web and Email" in my plan features, and shows a total monthly due on the final screen as $30 less now. Is this normally what they now do? Actually makes buying a new phone totally worthwhile.

Be careful - a UDP is usually changed to a fixed data plan if you make any change. I'd do it in a Verizon store, and get it in writing (on the contract, sales slip or something else) that the UDP will remain. I've heard many stories of people being told that they'll keep unlimited data, only to find out that they now have a 10GB plan, and there's no way back. (If it's in the contract, Verizon is legally required to do what's in the contract - and they don't want the publicity they'll get from a suit forcing them to comply with their own contract.)

It looks like the op is paying full retail so he can keep unlimited data. Probably just a glitch in the website, he would probably still get charged data.

I guess I wasn't totally clear....but if I do a Verizon order online through their website, and they quote me $xx/mo....will they honor that? Because if so, I'm better off paying full retail price than I would be getting a discounted phone via the BB method. As I'll save $30/mo over what I'm paying now, which will fully pay for my phone in a matter of 18 months.

You would probably still have to pay the data charge.
