Navigation App missing after Google Maps Update

mine was missing also, but I can get to the blue inverted icon by:
1. opening maps
2. click on the maps drop down menu
3. click on the familiar navigation icon

It's a annoying but it the same app as before just a few more steps.

Can anyone please tell me how to turn it off??? Although scrolling back seems to make it go away, I'm not to sure it's off. I think it's still draining my battery even though I'm not using it. Any ideas?

Thanks for confirming what I suspected about not entering a specific destination. I found that a really convenient feature RIP.
I've rummaged around in the settings and don't see any way of suspending the sleep function.

I now have the old version on an old phone with deactivated SIM card so I can use it for destinationless navigation, but this means I don't have traffic info and I also have to preload the terrain of my likely area of operationbefore travelling, while I still have a wifi connection .

I'm keeping the current version on my new phone, in the naive hope that someone in Google will cop on and undo some of the disimprovements. That way I'll still have access to traffic info - at the risk of crashing as I repeatedly tap the screen to stop it from going dark, and provided I remember to pick the right phone to put in the cradle in my car before starting my journey.

My job used to involve advocacy of innovation: now I sometimes wonder....

Ohferchrissake!!!!!!

It's just re-updated the version in the old phone without my asking and without even giving me the option to refuse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AAAAAAUUUUUGGGGGHHHHHHHH!

Folks,

After wasting a few hours trying to figure out what happened to my Navigation app, then trying to just find it to re-install, then visiting a local Verizon Wireless Store, I did as suggested and just went to my Maps app an "uninstall updates" NOW EVERYTHING IS BACK AS WAS :)

Google is nuts, the Navigation App stand-alone is way better than the updated and integrated MAPS app!!

Wake up Google!!!!

I knewtice that right now Lol, I only hve Telenav GPS Navigation, But I use Google Maps for navigation. Not in car but Biking

My phone also had some updates last night and my navigation app is also missing. It was my favorite app and easy to use! Now we have to settle for that horrible google navigator app. I wish they would allow us to pick and choose which ones we want to keep! I am using an Android from Verizon!

Laura,
Read the thread from the beginning. The method to get the old version back is discussed multiple times

The new version works just like the old with contacts.
Tap the person's address and it's inserted into the map search bar.

That seems to only be true if you're using Google Contacts, which I don't. The old app's Navigation area had a (searchable) Contacts list that let me pick a contact to navigate to. Now I have to go out to my contacts app, scroll to the address, and click it if I want to go to a contact's address. That's significantly more effort and more dangerous when driving.

Searching from within the new maps does include your Contacts/People database in its search scope so there's no need to exit Maps.

It is indeed an outrage. All those wronged or betrayed by this update deserve reparations or, at the very least, a refund.

Ok, a free app that there is no charge for. Here you go. $ Nothing $.

just uninstalled the app...it will remove only update ..and your original navigation pointer will restore.100% work.

It definitely doesn't search mine - I've tried and tried. Could it be device-specific? I'm on a Galaxy Note 2.

Alternatively, I wonder whether it only searches the Google account in the Contacts/People database. All of my contacts are under a different account.

I think it's worth gathering information to answer these questions. To that end, I've created this thread in the Android Application forum. If everyone here could take a few minutes to go over there and respond to it, it'd be very helpful.

Save yourself the trouble...you had to ask that question so what Google did with this update is obviously bad. First, write a helpful negative one-star review of the current version of the app from the play store. Once you've submitted your one-star review, click "uninstall updates" at the top of the play store page. This should function properly unless you have auto-updates turned on.
