Navigation App missing after Google Maps Update

Ohferchrissake!!!!!!

It's just re-updated the version in the old phone without my asking and without even giving me the option to refuse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AAAAAAUUUUUGGGGGHHHHHHHH!

Go into the play store, tap menu, go to settings, and turn off automatic updates. This has been discussed multiple times, too.

My phone also had some updates last night and my navigation app is also missing. It was my favorite app and easy to use! Now we have to settle for that horrible google navigator app. I wish they would allow us to pick and choose which ones we want to keep! I am using an Android from Verizon!

Even I am facing the same problem.

Read the thread from the beginning. The method to get the old version back is discussed multiple times

This method works to create a navigation shortcut for the new Google Maps >
How to Get Your [old] Nav Icon Back for New Google Maps

Thanks for the link to the thread at the Galaxy S3 Forums...I use the Apex Launcher on a Motorola Atrix 2, and someone in that thread pointed out that Apex has the functionality to add a shortcut via Shortcuts - Activities - Maps - Navigation that gets the Nav icon back. I didn't find the new user interface Mobile-friendly at all when I briefly played with it a couple of weeks ago, but I'll give it a further look at least, now. I thought Google Navigation was supposed to be a substitute for a dedicated GPS (for many of us, anyway) and therefore needed to use large size icons and fonts that could be read with a phone mounted on the dash or windshield, and also friendly to voice commands, especially for destinations. From what I saw on the prior brief tour, it was as if the developers spent 99% of their time either in the office or riding the BART where those issues weren't a primary concern. I've been amazed by some of the comments here and elsewhere hammering those who can no longer easily get basic functions done that are critical to the ultimate end user. That, in my book anyway, is a Fail from the outset by the developers/Google.

But it's easier to notice the frigging blue triangle missing or missing again and cone on here and cry than it is to read things first.

If you don't care for the thread, feel free to move on. Posting to complain about it is not an appropriate response.

Don't have a problem with the thread - just the people that don't read the multiple posts that tell them how to get it back the way it was and instead just cry about their missing blue arrow.

I had the same experience but the icon (blue arrow head) didn't disappear. Instead it changed to a shortcut to Google Maps. I found the old Navigate pretty good as a satnav but I have yet to discover whether Google Maps has a satnav function. I would much prefer to get my old Navigate App back.

If you have a "problem" with other members, I suggest you refrain from posting about it in the thread. Either ignore the post or report it to the moderator team. Complaining about other members who are simply seeking help is not an appropriate response.

Keep the discussion on-topic.

Yes, the new maps includes full navigation capability, including GPS SatNav. Many people don't like it as much, but it is included. Instructions on how to get the old nav app back have been posted somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 times.

I was in the middle of using this navigation app when it was confiscated by Google. I hated it as it does not work as well. I deleted it and I now use Verizon's maps, but I sure miss the old app. It worked perfect for me! plus it gave me verbal directions which help keep my eyes on the road; where they belong. :'(

If you try reading some of the other posts in this thread, you may come away both enlightened and happier.

The only drawback I've found with the new Maps is that I can't manually look for alternate routes. Supposedly NAV will do that automatically now but luckily I haven't had to see it as traffic hasn't been bad enough.

Don't know what to do? I would start by reading some of the posts prior to yours. The answer is there.
