I uninstalled the update to Google Maps and my blue icon came back; however, I lost my addresses.

I was wondering the same thing, did the reboot n nothing... I did find out however that google maps nav has been incorporated in google maps so u dont really need to delete updates to get the icon back. I kinda like it better this way, GM & GMNav. in 1.

I lost the Nav icon on my LG Optimus G.

I don't see a way to get back to the same exact features as in the old blue Nav icon. Are you saying you found a way? If so, please clue me in. I've been playing around with it and am missing that if its there.
I miss the old + and - buttons to zoom in and out and do not see a way to set a shortcut for a destination. (Had Home and Work on my home screen and they disappeared along with the blue Nav icon).
I guess I will have to get used to the upgrades but I think I liked the old one better.
I do like the links to the "Starred" places in the Google Maps shortcut one can make but they don't work as links.

This is a case of fixing what wasn't broken imo.

OK fine I removed the update and got it back .. BUT I called my phone co and asked WTF.. The reply was this 8/9/2013 Google is going to stop the maps on phone all together.
So the phone we got to use as a gps well looks like we are going to be boned soon by Google. Really starting to thing Google is a new spelling of Microsoft..

I wish it worked for me. I have tried with and without the update but can't get my blue arrow back. The only way I can use the navigation is to go to the play store, find the Maps app, click on open, click the little triangle by the map icon, then click the blue navigation icon. No matter what I do, it doesn't show up anywherenexcept by opening the play store. I want my one-click navigation back!

Either you heard wrong or your phone Co spoke wrong. Maps isn't going away after 8/9, Latitude is.

FishenFool has it right. But you can still get location of friends and fam through Google+

Update -- Saw a notification that maps was updated automatically and the navigation icon is gone again!
How annoying! Played around and found out there is another step to keep the fix permanent!

worked for me,, I have metro PCS and they are no longer offering the metro navigator and referring all to google maps of which I had been using until my ICON went missing thanks again!

Deleting the update, worked for my Galaxy S2 xcover, after update it is still available!
On my S4 i did not have the problem at all, Always had that icon not matter what update i got.
My girls S4 has it gone completely, no solution yet for this device (((
