Navigation UI Mistake by Google

Can someone please tell me why Google chose to keep the Navigation buttons at the bottom in landscape? Its so ridiculous to keep stretching for those buttons. Why didn't they keep it like the Galaxy Nexus?

I agree, I'd rather them on the sides. That said, it's not too bad. It's not a stretch for me at least.
