I was using an old smartphone (a Samsung Galaxy Core Prime S820C) as a jukebox. I was running the AIMP music player on it, and nothing else.
I kept it constantly plugged in to AC power. Problem: it wasn't designed to stay always plugged in. Gradually its battery overcharged and swelled up. I was afraid it would explode and start a fire, so I recycled it.
That phone was probably only worth $5-10. Now I'm looking for suggestions for its replacement, probably some old used model, preferably one that's comfortable with being constantly plugged in. It doesn't have to do anything else - just run the jukebox app.
