Hello, i did a search but didnt find the answer.

i just got off the ph w/ verizon because i had a huge text msg bill. i had been using google voice to send text to a friend who is on verizon. but for some reason those were counting as texts. any idea why that may be? They did come into my sms pro inbox and i would reply from there but it was all under the GV number..??

also i told the rep i lose all data connection from time to time. she recomended a factory reset.. is this the only way? does it actually work? any feed back on that id appreciate . i kno it wipes your phone, but if it really corrects the problem it may be worth it.

Any help is appreciated.

How big was the text message bill? How long have you been a Verion customer? Did they give you a break on the bill because of a misunderstanding perhaps in exchange for adding text messages for your plan?

As for the factory reset, it's unlikely to fix your problem but they will want you to do that before offering to send you a 'like new' replacement phone. If the replacement phone has the old radio and you do not update it, that will likely fix you your problem, but your GPS and audio while video recording won't work as well. If the update does have the new radio firmware, it may not fix your problem.

few thousand texts this month. yes they did cut me a good break on the bill, which was very nice.

sounds like i prob. want to stay away from the factory reset then. Altho i just did a battery pull because mms's werent downloading and the phone felt laggy and i just had 3 random restarts since then.( i never had a rebooting issue before) did i just screw myself?

Do you have it set up as "do not use google voice to make calls" or something like that? If so, it shouldn't be using your texts, at least that's the way I have it set up. Also, I'd recommend that you use the myverizon application to see data and text and minute usage. If not, you can call #data to give you data and text usage.

If they're coming into your SMS inbox, you're receiving Verizon text messages. It sounds like you have your GV number set up to forward your GV text messages to your Verizon phone number. Log into your Google account on your computer and turn off the option to forward GV messages as SMS messages to your phone. That's why you were being charged for text messages.

I use my GV number for sending and receiving text messages by using the Google Voice app. The GV app should be on your phone (otherwise download from the Market). Set it up with the same Google account as your GV number and you'll be able to send and receive SMS messages from within the Goggle Voice app without incurring Verizon text message charges.

As long as the text messages are not going to your SMS box, Verizon will not charge you for a text message. You can also have your GV text messages forwarded to your email address, which will also allow you to receive and respond to text messages without incurring additional Verizon charges.

=) YES this is what i believe was happening. i have turned off the feature that notifies me via text about the GV text msg. Now it sends me an email to let me know someone has sent me a GV text msg... the only downside to the GV is that it doesnt notify you on its own. right? you have to have an email sent in order to know that you have a new GV text...

A factory reset will not cause any problems, and it can sometimes resolve a problem. The only downside of a factory reset is that you have to set up your phone the way you like it all over again. It sounds like you have to set up your Google Voice differently anyway. And, no, a simple battery pull did not cause the random restarts. BTW, do you know if you have the OTA update installed or not?

The Google Voice app has the usual notifications. Plus, it shows your SMS conversations in a better format than what you get with email, as well as not having your SMS messages mixed in with your emails.

You can set Google Voice to sound a ringtone and to place a notification in the status bar when you receive a message. Just make sure the option to send you a text message is turned off here as well.

Edit: If the Google Voice app isn't pre-installed on your phone, just download it from the Market.

the prob. is that the little GV icon doesnt indicate a new msg. the only setting it has is to scroll the msg in the notification bar ( i hate this , who wants your msgs able to be in plain sight to anyone who looks/picksup your phone.

any work arouunds?

I'm not aware of any way to keep the message from flashing on the status bar. I would also prefer just to have a notification icon and not have the message contents displayed (even if it's just for a moment). I like the extensive notification settings in GO SMS and wish that Google Voice had something similar.

Sounds like the best you can do is to turn off the status bar notification and just set a ringtone and have the led flash.
