Alright so like all of you I have had my eye on the new Nexus for awhile. I cracked my iphone 4 screen back in August and I sold it thinking I could go a month or so without a phone until the Nexus comes out(I am switching providers from AT&T to Verizon) Now with all of the delays I can't wait any longer. I still want the Nexus but am not sure as to what to do now. I have to get a phone on Verizon as I am no longer on AT&T. Can I buy a old phone off contract and just activate another line on our family plan or in order to start a new line do I have to buy a 2 year contract price phone? The other question I have is what phone should I get? This is going to be my first android phone and ultimately want to end up with the Nexus so I plan on selling whatever phone I get when Verizon decides to finally release the Nexus if I can get most of the money back so the Nexus doesn't end up costing me a bunch. SO Should i buy an old phone off contract (if possible) or should I buy the razr? rezound? iphone 4s? What will give me the best opportunity to get my money back and be able to buy a Nexus assuming the worst that it doesn't come out till after the extended return policy date?

The power button has been broke on my OG Droid for a month now. I have a road-trip this week to Lexington to see the UNC vs. UK game. Never in a million years did I think I'd be making this trip with my OG Droid.

I can't wait to get rid of this thing. I really hate Verizon right now.

Read the new return policy of Verizon O:-) and probably read a few threads in "Verizon Galaxy Nexus" forum with the keyword "rent"

Assuming you have yet to sign a contract with VZW (I cant tell what your status is in your original post), get Razr or Rezound and return it when the Nexus comes out. It will cost you a $35 restocking fee, which will be less than the difference between what you will get for selling a phone on CL or eBay and paying full retail for the Nexus.

With VZW having an extended return period until mid January you are virtually assured of swapping for the Nexus when it comes out.

Just be careful with your "rental" while you have it.

PS... Rent the Rezound. Its a great phone IMO.

My Droid 2 Global screen has been going berserk on me for the past month and a half and is only getting worse each day. I really wish I could throw this thing against a concrete floor but am patiently waiting for the Galaxy Nexus. I hope it comes out no later then Dec. 8 otherwise I might be phone-less after I get mad and throw this one on the ground.

I've read the threads about renting but to be honest i'm starting to worry this thing won't be out till after the return window (hope that's not true but it's the latest I've seen). I have not signed a contract with Verizon yet but will be due to discount from work. Going to go get a phone today now just need to decide if I want the Rezound or 4s to hold me over

Two things

If you know for sure you want the Nexus, then hold over with the Razr or Rezound. It makes no sense to get the 4S. You've been there and done that with the 4 on ATT.

IMO you will lose money selling a 4S and having to pay full retail for the Nexus versus returning the 4S or Razr/Rezound and paying $35 to swap to the Nexus.

I am going to a Verizon store after work today to see how this insurance thing I pay for every month works. The touch screen on my old HTC Touch Pro 2 stopped working a couple weeks ago. I have a slider keyboard so I was able to do most things I need. This morning I turned the thing on only to be stuck in airplane mode. After trying a few things that did not change anything, I was left with doing a hard reset. Now with no touch screen I can not setup my email or anything. I am now stuck with a dumb, smart phone. I can not go much longer like this.

Careful "renting" the Rezound... I haven't checked myself on this yet, but someone here posted that the restocking fee is actually $135, because you keep the Beats earbuds. Can anyone confirm/deny?

THe reason I was considering the 4s was because if the Nexus doesn't come out till after the return date then worst case I will have a phone with a higher resell value. Best case scenario I return the 4s for the Nexus if it comes out in time. Doesn't the return policy work the same for the 4s if you buy at verizon stores as it does for rezound?

Deny, unless they give you option to keep them. I returned my rezound with no trouble and only $35.

So you have gone since August without a phone? Damn that is a long time!! What made you think the GN was coming out in Sept?

Anyway you need a phone, I get that. I personally would not "rent" one as some people are saying. Keep in mind if you somehow damage the phone (scratches etc) you will be stuck with that phone and will not be able to return it.

Why not get a prepaid phone? Hell for sure we are know that you will only be using the phone for at most a month since the GN is coming out by the end of the year. The pre paid phone doesn't have to be anything fancy, just something to get you by another couple weeks, doesn't even have to be with Verizon.

Just buy a Razr and return it when the Nexus comes out.........let Verizon have a crap load of used Razrs...maybe the used ones will sell better than the new ones.

Ya since the end of August. I cracked the screen and a guy made me an offer to buy it that I couldn't turn down so I started using a old blackberry curve until that stopped working than an old lg phone that I lost and then a couple weeks later the contract ended anyways so I have been phoneless for awhile waiting on Verizon. I've been on a ipod touch and since I go to college there is almost always wifi that i can call or text on. Ya the damage part is what has been holding me back from renting one and the restocking fee. This could all be remedied if Verizon would just announce something...anything!

im in the same boat but not as bad. i have a nexus s on tmo and bought it from best buy. dropped it on the power button and it constantly shorts out. the screen goes on and off and into airplane mode at will. i didnt get a protection plan and they wouldnt help me. tmo wouldnt help me either. i plan on leaving tmo any day and going to join my familys plan (i work for my dad doing electrical work) and need my phone to find the job sites and plenty of other things like home depot. I am officially tired of waiting. Tomorrow I will get the rezound. I loved having a nexus but this phone seems doomed. i may "rent" but in the end i can just tinker with the rezound. i bought an eris at launch and my friend still uses it and it works.

1. Go onto eBay and buy a cheap phone.
2. Visit your Verizon store and get signed up as a month to month customer and port your line in if you still can
3. When the Nexus arrives you will be eligible for upgrade pricing you an then sell the old phone or keep it as a backup.

Depending on what you have for insurance (extended warranty, insurance, or total equipment coverage) if the phone isn't physically damaged they may just replace it under the manufacturer's warranty with a certified like new device (may not be the same model) for free OR if it shows physical or water damage you will have to pay the deductible and be given the same privilege. Either would be shipped overnight or two day to you.

Your lowest risk option is going prepaid. Boost, virgin, Tmobile. Check em out.
