I can usually find answers to all my questions by searching this forum, but this time I'm stumped! All I want is to sync the contacts on my Droid X phone (Gingerbread, I think) with my Nexus 7. Surely there's an app that would do that. I have no wish to put all my contact info into gmail if I don't have to. Thanks for all the help I've already gotten here!

Hi, I use Memotoo: synchronize all you want and store your data in secure Cloud to sync contact, calendar, etc between devices: Android, Thunderbird, Google, another older phone... All entries can be categorized, and you can select which categories you want to sync on each device. For instance, my wife's phone only syncs contacts that are categorized "Wife", but they're all actually on the same address book.

There's a whole load of tools there. I recommend you try for yourself.

If you really have a lot of contacts then you might want to get a paid subscription and more features. Mine is some $15 a year or something.

honestly, using Google contacts is probably the easiest, most seamless, and best way to manage contacts. Not ever having to worry again about losing 200+ phone numbers if I lose my phone is great, and I make a change once and only once. I don't have to make the same change on 4+ things.

Agreed. After having tried a number of address book platforms, I really believe there's currently nothing better than google contacts out there. Setting up sync should be fairly easy and here are the details: Google Sync

Also, if you want to automatically keep your professional contacts up to date, you can also give the app that my team's developed a try: WriteThat.name

Cheers,
Brad

Thanks for all the good information, I'm looking into everything you all mentioned!
