so my droid incredible has been acting weird lately. it sometimes seems to have a mind of its own and scrolls through my contact list just selecting names and keeps going down the list. also on the home screen it slides back and forth from the home screen all by itself. i get the notification to update the software frequently and it never performs the update when i prompt it to. now the phone is rooted so i thought maybe this had something to do with it. any suggestions on what i should do? my boss said he can restore everything back to factory or just swap out the phone because i work at best buy.

The update will fail if you're rooted so that explains the notification. The "ghost screen" sounds like the optical pad has junk in it. Try cleaning it with a little rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip.

Hope this helps.

thank you. had a feeling being rooted would have something to do with it. not only does the screen act like its possessed, some of my settings get changed automatically. for example, i have my incoming calls set to NOT vibrate. couple days go by and when i get a call it vibrates. i think i should just exchange it for a new one lol

Your boss was nice to offer you a switch. Take him up on his offer for the new one !

Probably not. Your problem is that your optical trackpad has junk in it, as others have said. Usually just swiping at it quiets it down whenever this happens to me, but you could also clean it. Or you could just be swiping it by accident. I've noticed that some people don't even realize it's there most of the time.

The volume thing is probably totally unrelated. It's really easy to accidentally press the volume rocker (my one issue with the phone's design), and that's probably what you're doing. You might be accidentally putting the phone on vibrate (which will happen if you hold "down" on the volume rocker) when you lock your screen or something.
