Need for display protection and/or case?

Hi!

As I ordered my blue V30 (tbd in about two weeks or so), I have my first question:

Do I really need a case/screen protection?

My thought is, that a MIL 810G rated phone shouldn't be prone to damage, and why do we buy nice looking phones with wonderful colours, when we hide them in a bulky case afterwards...?
Any experience concerning scratches or cracks as of yet?

TIA for any experiences you can share.

I agree about the beauty of the phone, but here are my reason for a case/screen protector:

1. I almost dropped the phone the moment the sales person handed it to me when we were activating it. I had a heavier phone before and wasn't expecting how different this one felt.
2. We live on a farm and between putting my phone in area's to protect it when it isn't in a pocket (like a cinder block cubby hole is the right place is open for debate) and potentially dropping it in the sandy soil, I'd be worried.
3. I work both at home & my place of employment with a lot of chemicals/dirt, so anything I can put on the screen to protect it is good in my opinion.

There are a number of other threads you might be able to find in the AC/LG V30 forum that could give you additional insights.

Screen protector no, unless you are OCD about microscratches or work in a profession where sand or hard metals may scratch your screen.

A case though is probably a good idea on an all glass phone, if just to add a little padding during those accidental drops.

I usually get both. I usually go with a glass screen protector. In the time I had the V30, I had no manner of luck at all finding a screen protector that fits the phone cleanly. But a poorly fitting screen protector is still good protection from accidental scratches (e.g., from keys in your pocket). Same with a case. Sure it is MIL rated. It is still a phone made of glass. The case will also be good protection from scratches.

Keys will not scratch this screen.

I'm generally pretty easy on my phones and I personally prefer not to use a case. The reason I went with a case for his phone are to protect it from scratches on its back and to provide some grip. The phone is a bit slppery. First case I tried was the Spigen Liquid Crystal clear plastic case. (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071G815YQ) I liked it well enough, but felt the material was too thick for my taste. Second one I tried was the Cubevit clear plastic case (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074Z46SF4) This one doesn't add too much bulk around the edges. I think the back could be thinner yet, but it's good enough for now.

I wouldn't be too worried about it cracking but definitely scratches. The new gorilla glass is much tougher and can withstand drops better but it is also prone to scratching. I suggest getting a simple TPU case to prevent scratches and add grip to it. Also a wet install screen protector on the screen (tempered screen protector and curved glass will not be a good experience). It's up to you though, some people don't care about scratches and they sell their phone within 1 year.

This is exactly my reasoning.

When my phone is in a pocket, there are no metal objects with it.

4 years at Verizon I've seen enough broken phones I won't use one without a case/screen protector. A phone is a tool, I couldn't care less what it looks like, and they all look very similar anyway.

I'll agree with the tool part!
The V30 is "military" rated...... But it is still glass and not bullet proof glass!
Case and screen protector for me.

Add in the fact that the phone is slippery as hell. I'd get a case for sure.

I went with the Huey case by Lumion. Nice thin case and I really appreciate the grip it adds

Lateck,
Well THAT would be a thing! Bulletproofing would help in a lot of situations :D

Thx, mate, that gave me a smile today.

I personally would go for an ultraslim, transparent case then, which doesn't change the geometry of the phone too much and still displays the colour.

Amazon has the AVIDET, KingShark, Eouine, Olixar etc cases. All are TPU/Gel/Silicone cases. I guess one of them will be my choice.

Definetely yes.
From one side you can have nice looking phone, but if you accidently drop it, you won't be happy when you see bill for repairing it.

For example, I live in Ukraine, and screen repairing is awfully expensive here. If I drop my LG v30 and it's screen will crack I'll have to pay 60% of my monthly salary just for fixing it.

Recently I bought Zizo Bolt Series case and it's really awesome. Not very bulky, but it saved my phone screen few times already. Also you can buy Tempered Glass Screen for it from Zizo and it will be fit perfectly.
