Need GPS on for smart lock to work?

I enabled Smart Lock and gave it my home address but it didn't work. I'm wondering if it needs GPS on all the time. M9 already has battery issues.

That could be a possibility. I see a few Smart Lock apps in the play store. What exactly do you want to do?
