Hello & welcome to Android Central..

Anything you have purchased will be linked to your Gmail account used on your device and can be re downloaded. Free apps, you can use services like App Brain or even Google Play Store to see your installation history and re download your applications.

Contacts/Calendar are synced to your Gmail account, and you can export your Contacts list to file to move over just incase (sometimes Gmail goofs or something isn't syncing correctly and you loose some contacts.) This will cover you in that situation but manually moving the Contacts file.

Text msgs can be saved to file using a free app from Google Play Store called SMS Backup & Restore. Great application :)

As far as application DATA the only way to move that over is if your device is rooted, then you can use either Titanium Backup or MyBackup Root to make backup's of your apps & data.

Hope this helps.

Enjoy the forums.

thanx Paul, but the process sounds scary for an android newbie...coming from a BB background where device switch is a breeze, i was hoping the android ecosystem will have something that's even better than that one stop shop BB has

now you're talking about 3 or 4 apps and processes to switch from one android device to another:(
