So, I cracked my screen and decided to replace it myself... no big deal. It was very easy to swap out, but after it was done I started having problems turning on the screen. Double tap rarely works. I can't turn it on at all during a call, which makes automated systems impossible and makes it impossible to hang up a call before it goes to voicemail.
Anyway...
After a bit of research I discovered that the issue is a missing proximity sensor gasket. They tend to stick to the frame when you remove the motherboard, so it was almost certainly stuck to my old, broken screen, which of course was tossed in the garbage.
This little tiny rubber piece is causing me a great big headache. I can't find a replacement anywhere, without spending way more than I would like to for a non functioning G4. The proximity sensor itself seems to be a pretty standard component. That makes sense, as there really isn't any reason for LG not to just settle on one and put it in all phones. It's not a part that needs spectacular performance in one phone compared to another, it just needs to work.
So...
I'm looking at much cheaper non-functioning LG models on eBay, hoping to find something that might have the gasket. Anybody have any ideas?
