A buddy on sprint said foxfi has stopped working after an update. Anything to help him? He doesn't want to root....

Thanks!

It is now working on my phone since a recent update but FoxFi does have limitations on the amount of use

Hi Neil. What version? I wasn't able to get mine to work with the EVO 4g LTE

I am using version 2.12.7, there is also some sort of Foxfi addin which I also have installed but really do not know what it is

If you look at the list of supported devices on FoxFi's site, you'll see that the EVO LTE is unfortunately no longer supported. It worked until the Jelly Bean update, but that update killed it. Also worth noting since it works on neil154's Verizon S3, FoxFi does not work on the Sprint S3 either. Additionally, the FoxFi addon is a proxy, to disguise your traffic so as not to tip off your carrier about your tethering.

This is incorrect. FoxFi does not support the EVO LTE anymore. You can use that yucky pdanet thing they partner with, but it is not WiFi tethering and also requires proprietary drivers on your client machine (meaning it also will not work with Android or Linux or WP or iOS clients).

Foxfi was bought by PDANet and since the update it hasn't worked on any Jelly Bean phones on any carrier, until recently. June who owns PDANet has been working hard to crack the update and as of last week or so been able to crack Verizon's phones. I believe she is working carrier by carrier to unlock the rest and I'm betting the EVO 4G LTE will be unlocked sooner or later. I've been using wired tether with PDANet when I need to connect my laptop at airports and it works great. My Foxfi license works for PDANet also.

Bluetooth works great for tethering my Samsung Intercept to the N7. Get BlueDUN for the phone, and pair it with BlueVPN for the tablet.

Its so much easier to unlock the bootloader flash a recovery and su and just use TrevE's wifi tether.

Hey Benny3, Just curious. If you unlock the bootloader on the evo 4g Lte and flash a recovery and su will the phone work exactly the same before you did this?
My phone works great now and don't want to loose any functionality but would like to have wifi tether. Thanks

I wasn't aware this update has been rooted yet. It has? I might need to seriously consider it now.

In any case, rooting =
1) Loss of warranty (although avoidable in most cases. Might not matter now for many at this point)
2) Loss of timely updates
3) Potential screwup
4) Loss of DRM for certain types of programs (which will no longer work)
5) Having to wipe phone

Just saying.
