Hello. I'm new here. I have rooted and flashed over custom Roms before but I haven't done it on the Optimus S yet. It's my friend's phone so I'm trying to be as extra careful as possible. I have Rooted the phone and have superuser on it. I am not looking to flash a Rom onto it but I keep having to go to all these web pages to try to figure out how to do it and all the pieces of the process are everywhere. Every page has another link and process. (Nothing like my Epic or Hero) I have found out I need to flash custom recovery onto the phone. I need help doing this. I read somewhere that I need to update the kernel, possibly downgrade to 2.2.1, use ADB and add SDK tools. Also, some of the processes have a different baseband version. It all seems so complicated. Is this really the case or is there a simple tutorial w/ links?

The phone is a LG Sprint Optimus S with Android 2.2.2, baseband version LS670MVD_60401001.
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9
Build number: ZVD.41B2924E
SW Version: LS670ZVD

Please help. Thank you.

First off, Welcome!

Ok, you want a custom recovery on the optimus s? 2 real choices, xionia cwma or CWM 5.0.2.7 th3 by team hydro. You will find links to both in the stickes under "optimus s roms and recoveries" by telemike.

Each link contains step by step instructions on what to type in the command line.

Also, there are several one click utilities such as the sfhub's in the ZVH rooting thread (found at the top of the stickies). That method also works on ZVD.

Best piece of advice is READ READ READ. and do NOT use ROM manager.

Good Luck!

Welcome to the dark side of Android!

Here is the basic process:

**DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER**

1. Download and install Xionia Custom Recovery using the instructions provided on its thread. Yes, Drew recently posted a CWM recovery, but it is much more litmited in what it works with and considering your baseband, probably not the best option right now. Go with Xionia Recovery.

**DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER**

2. Browse our forums and choose any ZVD-based ROM you like. Your best options are Reborn ROM, sROM, and--if your friend likes the tweaking and constant upgrade cycle--thekraven's CM7. Download the ROM (and gapps, if necessary). Use the phone in USB storage mode to move the ROM (and gapps, if necessary) to the root of the sdcard.

**DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER**

3. Reboot into recovery and perform a nandroid backup of your rooted stock ROM.

**DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER**

4. WIpe cache, data, dalvik-cache via Xionia custom recovery.

**DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER**

5. Using Xionia custom recovery, flash the ROM of your choice (and gapps, if necessary).

**DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER**

6. Reboot, wait a good 15 minutes for all to settle... sync your google account... enjoy the ROM!

**DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER**

And finally, **DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER**

Hi ya'll.

Thank you! I was going over so much info and it was all starting to get confusing. My Epic seems like a piece of cake compared to the Optimus. I'm going to read as much as I can before I try this. ** And I won't use ROM manager**. And thank you again for the info, links and instructions.

*** Oh and I won't use ROM manager. Promise. Thanks again.*** (^-^)

Epi might have been just a little bit over the top on the rom manager bit, but that is the biggest way people brick thier phones. Good luck, and ask any questions you need.

Ok I was tinkering and used rom manager I knew better but I couldn't resist the possability of cwm touch didn't work out the problem is I don't have a PC and I'm 800 miles away in a motorhome not gonna happen so can I trick rom manager into flashing xionia cwm for me or......am I boned if anything happens....hanging by my thread here....

Once again I knew better it was just one of the dumbass things you do and can't explain why
