Need Help. Pictures look dim.

I tried searching around and couldn't find anything. I'm trying to get the best out of my GS3 camera but having an issue that has to do with the light sensor. I tried taking a picture of my sons new tablet but everytime I would point the camera towards the tablets screen, my screen would dim and the pictures would come out the same. Anytime the sensor would pick up the slightest light from the tablet, it would dim my picture. Not just does it dim the tablets screen but everything else in the picture. I tried looking under the settings but I couldn't find a solution. Then on new years I tried taking a picture of my son with a sparkler and had the same problem. It came out ok but with the full brightness it would of came out alot better. No shooting mode seems to work, that sensor kicks in everytime. Does anyone have a solution to this annoying problem.

The sparkler is so bright that the phone is metering for bright conditions, I suspect that the tablet or some thing else is reflecting enough light to so the same thing. Under setting you can set some exposes compensation (it is listed as exposure value) to override the metering and force the phone to overexpose the photo.

Note that this may cause some spots in the photo to be blown out.

I appreciate the info Scott. Yeah I know that sensor is just doing its job but I'll definitely try adjusting the exposure value. When I took that picture of my son, it dimmed the pic so much you could barely make out anything around him since we were outdoors. Also I tried lowering the tablets screen to the lowest setting but when I would take the pic it dimmed it so much you couldn't even make out the tablets case. Of course I could of tried turning on a bright light in the room but it wouldn't of looked good unless I go out and switch out all my bulbs for fluorescent ones which would then make me look obsessed haha.

Try changing your "metering mode" for the camera. It is probably matrix. Change it to spot. The. Tap the area on the camera to focus, where you want the camera to adjust its exposure for, such as your son's face. Hopefully he will now be exposed properly. Let us know if this works.

Thanks for the info, that finally fixed the annoying dimming. I tested it out in my living room with the tv about 10 ft away, under Center-weighted and Spot the picture would look good until I faced the camera towards the tv but when I switched it to Matrix it didn't dim it out at all. Now I can finally take picture in low lit areas without having to worry if the picture is going to come out too dark.
