I found this thread with instructions for rooting this tablet here:

https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2490805

It is an old thread, to hence my question here. I hope this does not constitute double posting.
I am a beginner and would like some assistance with understanding step #2 in the rooting instructions here please:

"Flash autorootp600mj4.tar.md5 with Odin v3.09 (put in AP slot, don't change any other settings, click start)"

I know where to find and download the first file in Win7 (not linux Mint 17.3 KDE which I use?). However, I have no idea where to find and install "Odin v3.09".
Do I find it on my computer and download it?
Then transfer to my tablet somehow?
Or, download it direct to my tablet?

Thanks,

Jim.

You download it to the computer and run it - and you download the Samsung driver to the computer in case you haven't already (that goes without saying, which is why BeansTown didn't mention it) - you can get it at SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones - get the SAMSUNG Android USB Driver for Windows (25.32MB) file. You can find Odin at https://thedroidguru.com/download-latest-odin-odin3-all-versions-full-collection/. (Always use the latest version - 3.12.7 is about it for now.) (You can also find Heimdall there, which can be used to flash a Samsung using Linux - although Odin is far easier.) Just scroll down until you see the link to 3.12.7.
