I just can't get better focus. Seems like it should be able to get better closeup focus? Can anyone help?

It should work on just tapping where you want the camera to focus on. Try doing that to see if it will help with the focus.

Such as here I tapped on my puppy's face / neck area and it focused.. Then I snapped.

Yep I see a circle that I tap. Doesn't seem to be focusing with that

I've had issues with focus as well. I can usually get it to focus, but sometimes it's a bit finicky.

But, you may want to make sure that the plastic protective cover on the camera lens has been removed - it's not real obvious that it's there, but if you haven't removed it, it may be affecting your focus.

Yep I removed it a couple of days ago. It was only covering the outer part anyways. I don't think it would interfere with focus even if it was left on

I've been wondering if my camera had the plastic..it's the Verizon version. I can't seem to feel it and when I tried "picking" it, it felt like I was hitting the camera surface itself so I don't really mess with it to avoid scratching it.

You have to look very closely, maybe get a flashlight and illuminate it from the side. It is very difficult to see in some cases.

you can try selective focus or try to DL the food photo app from samsung if not see if the google camera app might have something for you.
