EDIT: I ended up switching back to version 0.9.3, found here:

OK, for a few years now (starting in my BB Storm days...) I have been using DVDFab to rip dvds then using Handbrake to convert for use on my Storm and now Incredible.

Well, my 9 yr old broke my old laptop running XP so I got a new one running Windows 7. Downloaded DVDFab and it works great at ripping. But the new version of Handbrake will not convert the files. I keep getting an error and it closes, telling me Windows will let me know if it finds a fix...

Any help here will be greatly appreciated. I even tried to use DVDFab to convert, but get errors saying it does not recognize the file type??

You should try Wondershare DVD Ripper Platinum....it rips and converts in one process for a lot of formats including android phones, iphones, blackberries, psp. For MAC and PC

Rip DVDs with high compatibility

Extract both standard definition videos (AVI, MP4, FLV, MOV, WMV, MP3, AAC, etc.) and high definition videos (HD MKV, HD WMV, HD MOV, etc.) from DVDs with stunning results.
Convert DVD for importing to popular applications such as QuickTime, iMovie, iTunes 9, Final Cut Pro, PPT, Adobe Premiere Pro, etc.

Ripped DVD clips can be uploaded to YouTube, Google, Yahoo, MySpace, and other video sharing websites.
Rip DVD movies for enjoying them on the latest iPod touch, Apple TV and iPhone 4, as well as iPod, iPhone 3GS, PSP and other mobile devices.

OK, tried the free trial.... pretty dang fast! But whooowee! $45 is kinda steep.... have to think that one over. Thanks for the tip though!

Yea it is kind of steep but for what it does is worth it. I found it handles pretty much any movie including the newest ones, rips and converts all In one and is one of the fastest programs at converting that I tested by at least double the speed.

The regular version is cheaper but I like the platinum as it does more.

I went with Pro instead of Platinum. I did three movies last night, but only watched one so far and it was kinda jerky on the pc. Have not watched it on the Incredible yet.

ook, I just looked at two of the movies I ripped n converted with Wondershare... the quality is nowhere near that of the videos I did with DVDFab and Handbrake. unless I can fix in settings, I think I just got ripped off. I will play with the settings later and try again...

there are two versions of handbrake. one is 64bit the other is 32bit. which one did you download, and what processor do you have? they have to match (kinda).

I only see a download for W7, no distinction for 32 or 64 bit. My laptop is 64 bit. I uninstalled it so I am ready for a fresh install...

Using it on my W7 laptop 64-bit no issues. I use it all the time. Try going to Taask manager and see if it's running in the background and stop it then install Handbrake and see if that works.

Everytime I click Start I get an error window... says HandbrakeCLI.exe has stopped or something like that....

I downloaded the GUI version, but there was no option between 64 and 32 bit.

I use it to rip and Handbrake to convert. I can get dvdfab to work just fine, but for some reason new Handbrake on new laptop does not want to work.

DVDFab is able to rip it from DVD to .avi, .mp4, .wma, etc... You should be able to just do it all in one step instead of ripping it then converting it.

I usually just DVDFab to rip a movie into my phone's format.

Ah ok, yea if you have the full version, you can do it all. I think their website has other options like a DVD to mobile version which is what you want and cheaper then getting everything.

But handbrake should still work on your computer. After a fresh install, what happens? The same error? What version do you have? 0.9.4?

Try using WINFF to convert your movies. I like handbrake but once I tried winFF I never went back. Converts perfectly for me. It even has a preset "Android Generic" setting. Best of all, It is free.
