Ok, so I've been reading, studying and analyzing the root process after buying an optimus S. I found the forum after I did the VD OTA update, ad found the appropriate process. I can't seem to root my phone and get it to stay that way, and was wondering for suggestions. I've made two attempts so far:

Attempt 1:

Force flash V9 with kp500
z4root
install SuperUser
Install Xionia's Clockwork Recovery
LG Mobile Update Tool to VD

After this, I lost my home button, and when attempting to go into recovery, both manually and by adb, it gave me a blank screen, making me think it reverted to the stock v9 recovery somehow, as I have the newer LCD screen. Flash back to VD.

Attempt 2:
Force flash back to VC
Use OCCv2 to root and install Xionia's
LG mobile update to VD

Again, the recovery went back to stock VC/VD and I lost root.

I must be missing something in the process, but I don't want to try it again until maybe I figure it out. I tried using adb to rename the install-recovery.sh file both times as a precaution, but no joy.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT - Also, just to be clear, I plan on flashing a ROM once I can be sure my root is intact and will stay that way. I haven't made the attempt yet because I have been able to keep rooted.

If you run android screencast in Android then do "adb reboot recovery" screencast will continue to display the recovery screen so you can see/confirm what is going on. Once you can confirm what is going on we can try and figure out how to proceed.

Ok, atm, I'm on V9 with a blank screen. I used screencast to z4root, installed superuser, and now when I drop into adb to try and install xionia I gat a permission denied when typing su. superuser is asking me to grant access for things, so I seem rooted, but I can't get to a root prompt now.

bah. nm, got it. didn't know that would throw up a superuser prompt

And apparently I'm a knucklehead. After going through the process again, using force flash for VD, I now have Xionia and ThundeROM installed. I feel so...... noobish.
