Need Help with Texting App for Droid X

OK...just got my Droid X Friday...from various threads here at AC I downloaded the app Handcent SMS for text messaging & it is great but the problem is that everytime I get a text message it comes thru on both the motorola text app & handcent...how can I have it where it only comes through on handcent? This may be a dumb question but this is my 1st smart phone other than a DIC for about 7 days...lol Any help would be awesome...thx

It will continue to come to both apps, but when prompted you can tell it to use Handcent as the default. If you want to turn off the notifications for the default app, check out Item d.

I tried this but it didnt seem to work...my android text still popped up first...

Are you referring to the notification at the top of the screen? If so, you need to open text messaging, hit the first hard button, select message settings, & then uncheck Notifications "Status Bar". If you're still getting them, I don't know what's going on, because mine works fine.
