Sorry for the cross-post from the new member forum, but I've only got 4 hours to decide whether to swap my VZ Gnex for a Maxx. Here's the cross-post.

Been lurking heavily since I got my Verizon Galaxy Nexus 14 days ago (thanks for all the helpful advice).

I thought I'd talked the salesman into dropping $100 off the $299 price by telling him I was probably going to buy the $149 Nexus through Amazon. Two days later, VZ cut the price to $199, so my deal wasn't such a deal after all, and the salesman knew it - he gave me some run-around about needing to bring new inventory in and tried to get me to let them mail me a $199 phone that would arrive three days later. Instead, I said I had to walk with the phone, and a manager made it happen by scanning in a newly-priced unit.

While that sorta irked me (it shouldn't have - I know salespeople can't tell customers not to buy devices because the price is going to drop), what irks me is the device itself. Terrible lag time when I switch signals, intermittent 3G (much less 4G) signal at my house, when other VZ devices get a strong signal, and even the WiFi signal from my E4200 Dual-band router drops off more quickly (on both the 5 and 2.5 WiFi bands) than other devices which are the same distance and location. Lastly, after some practice, maybe I could get my battery to last longer, but right now it's awful (heavy user here). I have not rooted and am running stock 4.02 that came with my device.

I have 4 hours before my restock 14-day period ends.

I've done lots of reading on the Droid Maxx, which is allegedly scheduled for a 5/21 ICS update (based on my HTC Incredible Froyo>Gingerbread experience, I take all VZ schedules with a grain of salt). So - if you've read this far, should I pay the $35 restock fee and get a Maxx, even with rumors that a Gnex ICS update is imminent?

Thanks for any advice.

PS - I freaking love the Nexus - so much fun to play around with - it's just the signal and battery issues that are pushing me towards a swap.

Personally, I'd wait. If the update does nothing for you, then swap.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, my last day to swap for a $35 restock fee is today. But I did read about the OTA 4.04 that VZ pushed to a few users today, which seems confirmed. I guess I'll wait, since it can't be too much longer (arrghhh....but have I forgotten VZW withdrawing Gingerbread from Dinc after pushing it out to some users, then waiting a long time to try again??)

I was in the same spot you were (technically; I could have swapped sans fee), but I stuck with the GN b/c for what I want, it is the best Android device out there ATM. You must make a similar determination ;).

Id say switch, you can always root the maxx and get ics whenever.. Id get the maxx for the battery. Especially since you saaid you were a heavy user... go for the maxx

I'd stick to the GNEX. Lots of people are speculating that there will be a Razr HD MAXX. Higher res screen with good battery life. Again though... speculation.

I honestly don't think now is a good time to buy a phone. With ICS just getting pushed to existing hardware now, I think there's a lot of new hardware waiting to get released. I think new hardware that's built on ICS from the ground up will be the better option.

Hold on to the GNEX until there's new hardware.

wait it out...take that $35 and buy a stock battery and a charger. the update should be here pretty soon...like you can probably manually update it (without root) in a day or two once someone pulls the file.

if the update doesn't fix your issues, complain to verizon, they will give you another nexus, if it still isn't working, complain again, do this a few times and they will upgrade you for free. they offered me a bionic when i had to get my 3rd thunderbolt.
if you like the phone, and have lived with it for this long, just wait it out. eventually, you will get a great phone with no issues, or you will get a different device through verizon for free anyway. thats just my opinion

If you haven't rooted, what are you playing around with? ics?
