Need to buy a new phone: Galaxy Nexus or Razr?

What doesn't make sense about it?

This is a thread about someone wanting to buy a razr or gnex. Now assuming the op is smart enough to actually hold the phone before purchase the width is a mute point. He may have man hands and be able to use the razr, then again it might be too big. Point is the phone isn't changing its size.

If ergomonics are at the very top of his list then neither the razr or gnex will work. I'm an iPhone user (not by choice) and I can say the gnex is too wide and awkward to hold and in comparison it is.

So if the ONLY reason you suggest not to get the razr is because its too wide then you are just hating on it. Unless you know the size of the op's hands of course.

The are a lot of relevant points why to get the GN that aren't opinion based.

Actually if you can read you would have saw that I mentioned other reasons. Of course the iphone will be smaller in hand hell the screen is over an inch smaller. I mean if you have chick hands than yeah the iphone is the way to go. The nexus feels much more comfortable than any other lte phone on verizon. I had the iphone 4 and 4s and the nexus felt better in hand and didn't need an otterbox case for fear that one drop the phone is done. And the part I bolded in your comment is what did not make sense. Maybe if you used proper grammar and punctuation it would be easier to read.

From a RAZR owners perspective. 2 thing I wanna mention:

The removable battery.....can be removed kinda easy. I took the back off the RAZR with just my fingers, one handed while filming it with my Droid X1. Will a company make extended batteries, spare batteries...thats the question.

I dont really care anymore cuz I wont be buying extended or spare batteries again because of this:

http://www.amazon.com/Anker-5600mAh...ag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUacUvbUpU1522497

Look at the pic of the guy holding it. Extremely small...and I have yet to see an extended battery for ANY phone match 5,600 mAh's. Thats a whole lotta battery life. And at the List price is about $15 cheaper than my 2800 mAh extended for my Droid 1:

Amazon.com: Seidio Innocell 2800 mAh Battery for Motorola Droid with Replacement Door - Black: Cell Phones & Accessories

seidioonline.com

I got mine from Seidio...will use Amazon from now on...They both have pros n cons. I agree try them both in the store to see if you like how they feel. The question you have to ask yourself is as you read thru the forums, reviews for the pros n cons of each device....whats more important to you.

Just understand all phones have pros n cons...and no phone is perfect. And IMO....if you pick the Bionic, Rezound, G Nex or RAZR....you really cant go wrong with any, depending on your wants n needs. Yea...I mentioned the Bionic. Spent time with it and its seriously not as bad as some ppl make it.

So if the ONLY reason you suggest not to get the razr is because its too wide then you are just hating on it.

And are there people in this thread who are suggesting to not get the RAZR solely due to how wide it is?

Please, find them for me.

If ergomonics are at the very top of his list then neither the razr or gnex will work.

And how do you know? Do you know the size of his hands?

Went from a civil debate to you being very upset. Chick hands? Coming from the guy that thinks the razr is too big to the guy that doesn't...ok

I'll give you the grammar and punctuation as I get this quite often from Americans. Just keep in mind English isn't everyone's first language. Wasn't until I moved here until I realized how small the world is...or thought to be... :-)

Work is upgrading my phone, looking extensively b/t a Galaxy Nexus or a Razr.
If it were me? Razr.

But only because GN lacks SD (and I have a bug up my butt about moto because of their Nazi Anti-root policies), If it wasnt for that, I would say GN all the way.

That being said, the Razr is a great phone IMO. I think the design is cool and it is probably the most durable of the three top phones right now. I have seen it in person, and the display is great. It isnt 720p, but it is better than everything else out now that is NOT 720p, which is pretty damn good. In the Verizon store I honestly did not see a difference due to resolution myself...I imagine I might if I used it day to day though. You cant remove the battery easily, but it can be removed.

Of course the real answer to this question is "skip both and buy a Rezound". Not that I am biased or anything, LOL

I have read all the pros and cons (and threads on this site) about each, especially the Nexus complaints regarding sound quality, reception, power drain.
The power drain thing appears to be a software issue, which means it will probably be resolved eventually. I have not heard about sound quality complaints (I didnt test the audio when i used it though). There are GN owners who are claiming they do not have reception issues...it does seem to have weaker reception in general than the Rezound, but I dont know if it is worse than the Razr.

Personally, I own an iPhone 4, which has been good, but not great either. Reception has been decent, battery drain is not good (running the Waze gps app for two hours driving will knock off 40% battery easily). So my iPhone has its own issues, but has proven to be a good phone. The 3G internet speed is ok, but sloooow!
I have to be honest, I have not been wowed by 4G myself (and I have very strong 4G reception). Maybe its just because of the apps I use or whatever. I dont think it is THAT much worse than 3G. Maybe its just that my 3G has been that good, heh heh.

So what do you all think, Galaxy Nexus, Razr or somethng else?
Option 3. Get a Rezound. Seriously.

My original choice was the Galaxy Nexus, but the Rezound converted me. I had never even heard of the Rezound until I came on these forums researching my new phone. Everything works well out of the box, it is fast, has a strong radio, has the best camera (quality-wise), and has (IMO) the best display. while the Beats Audio is a gimmick, it comes with killer earbuds (that are expensive). It has both SD Expansion and a removable battery. Oh yeah, and the GPS is awesome...it locks my location instantly when I load google maps. I have not seen that on another phone yet.

Also, HTC now allows you to unlock the bootloader legitimately. So you could root and still get ICS sooner rather than later. I love this phone.

Is the screen an important thing to you? If it is go to youtube and do a search for "HD". You will get a bunch of hd videos. If it is on wifi it should kick into the highest setting. The Nexus blows everything out of the water in this regard. I thought that the Rezound was supposed to be fairly sharp too. Was just in Best Buys where you can play with live phones. I wanted to watch the same HD video on each of the three phones. Rezound was no where near Nexus. RAZR was no where near Rezound? (in regard to screen sharpness) look for either the NASA launch or the big buck bunny or the around the world videos.
That wasnt my experience. I compared all three...the Rezound had the best video.

The Razr and GN have Super AMOLED which is awesome because of the deep blacks. I personally do like Super AMOLED better in general for that reason. But I still thought video looked better on the Rezound.

Warmest welcome to America....we call our phones smart....that isn't smart in my opinion. These forums are a great place. My opinion is Nexus all the way....no esplanade needed.

Like several others I've had both. I loved the way the razr felt being skinny and all. The killer for me was the HORRIBLE battery life on it though. Smart-actions my A**, I had everything off and was on 3g and it would still die in half the time my nexus will. You've done the research. Go with your instincts. But I say Gnex all the way

I feel moto has one benefit and everything else is a negative. Superior radio programming is the plus.

All of the negatives as they apply to the Razr,

-Only $300 contract phone without a HD display (I read a lot of books, it makes a difference)
-Most horrible workflow/feature set (takes more taps, swipes etc to get to where you need to go)
-Software support in the future is a laugh
-Possibility that future OTA updates brick/complicate/bloat your phone
-Most locked down bootloader out there
-Very cartoonish SAMOLED qHD display contrast
-Obnoxious stock transitions
-Lacking in useful widgets & an abundance of bloatware widgets

GNex negatives as we know the GNex,

-Released with some poor screen QC
-Software bugged low volume
-Poorly (not in my experience) coded radio
-ICS is new and a little scary to some folks
-"sub par" camera. This is IMO a load of junk. Best white balance/color reproduction I've seen on the new phones.

GNex positives,

-Everything else the phone has to offer.

I'm being harsh but please add these negs and positives to your own list and compare. I don't see the Razr as having any positives considering the software is such a smelly mess. Your phone is only as powerful as the software you can run on it. Case and point... take the beloved iPhones out there and send 1 pdf, 1 xls, 1 photo, and 1 ppt to a contact using the stock e-mail client. Not gonna happen. All the A# processors, retina displays, glass, marketing can't account for a low powered/missing feature on a smartphone.

I had the DX and there is a funny thing. When it first came out, people were saying, "Yeah its an Android but its a Motorola product...wink wink." Someone heard this and people were just regurgitating it all through the forums. But! Motorola has ALWAYS made quality products for as long as I can remember. I got the DX and it was awesome for the entire time I owned it up until 2 weeks ago.

I also heard how Samsung phones were crap and to stay away from them. Well, I have the GNEX and I friggen LOVE it. It has still performed far better than the DX did when it was first released. Yes it has some kinks to work out, but in stock form, the phone is still amazing.

My advice to you is to go test drive the phones. Both of them. Everyone has their preferences but I think they are BOTH awesome phones. I simply preferred the polish of the GNEX and the fact that it has the new OS.

Give them both a shot in your hands. You will know which one is for you in no time at all.

I have always liked their build quality. The Droid X was the only one I didnt care for...I didnt like the screen (I think it was plastic?) and I didnt like the hardware buttons. I definitely dont like how bossy they are when it comes to rooting.

I wouldn't buy any 4G phone right now. I just returned my Galaxy Nexus (which was an awesome phone) because the 4G network sucks so bad. I can't monkey around wondering if I'm going to have a data connection or not.

BTW, 4G can be turned off in the phone settings. Just in case you guys were not aware of this. These new networks and phones will get tweaked & updated eventually..

I think with any newer phone, you basically just have to have an AC charger at home and at work, as well as a car charger. For those other times when you're away from home or the car, say hiking, etc.......turn it off and enjoy the view of what you're doing.

My wife has a Charge and the 4G is excellent, almost like DSL compared to my iPhone having dial up!.

So what do you all think, Galaxy Nexus, Razr or somethng else? Thanks.............

If you have read through this area of the forum much you can see that the Galaxy Nexus is not for everyone.

As has been suggested before, go and try each of them out. See which of the two phones you prefer.

HTC's sense UI stinks in my opinion. It ruins the Android experience. Add in the fact they almost always go on the cheap by putting batteries in their phones that are too small to meet the demands of the phone and you have a recipe for a poor user experience.

Rezound also does not have ICS. It is a new phone using an outdated OS.
