Hello people,

I got my nexus one on 8th June and i am facing problems with Email notifications.

I have two accounts set up under the GMAIL application.

I have background sync and auto sync option ticked.

I don't get instant email notification when my Nexus one is locked. Note that I am on my Home Wifi with the WiFi sleep policy option found under the advance panel of WiFi settings ticked to "Never".

If any of you Nexus one owner who doesn't have the above problem can add me on my Gmail id (sunil.extc2209@gmail.com), It'll be of great help to me as I am in a conversation with HTC guys for a replacement of my N1.

The tech support at Google told me that it's a hardware issue and I need a replacement. Note that the Google's tech support guy uses 3G and he gets instant notification. He hasn't tested this on a WiFi so i am doubtful If it's a hardware issue unless I find someone who gets instant notification for new email on WIFI when the device is locked.

I am online on Gmail 24/7. Please add me as I need this community's support.

New to Android and I don't have know anyone who use this device.

Thanks!

I sent a google chat invite to you.
Make sure you have a ring tone and or vibrate set in your account settings on the N1 for your gmail account.

Also make sure your Gmail account is set up to allow imap access. I believe that is the only way you get notifications.

Notifications are independent of WiFi and 3G.

In your case, it sounds like your SLEEP NEVER setting is not working. Most people wouldn't even know this, because the phone would fall over to 3G, notifications would still work, and they would be none the wiser.

When you and I were chatting last night I put my phone in Airplane mode, (locking cellular radio off), then re-enabled WIFI, and I did get notifications of Gmail arrival instantly.

That is as close as I can come to your situation, where you have 3G, but no dataplan.

Still, the root problem seems to be that your phone does not honor the Wifi sleep NEVER setting.

If they are offering you a new phone under warranty by all means take it.

Yes, Pinging while locked works, packets are received.
This requires wifi sleep NEVER, which works on my phone, but seems to be what is failing on your phone.
