I wanted to use the user name Digital Dino but it seems that was already claimed! Nice to know I'm not the only old cogger who is just now getting up to mobile. My background is a Dead Sea Scrolls list that begins with keypunching data cards (circa late 1960s) and the use of those cards - via batch mode - to CAD some one of the first DIP 1K bit memory chips! Next computing included booting machines with DIP switches and feeding paper tape instructions in. A far cry from today to say the least! Along the way my first computer at home was a clone XT where loading meant the floppy shuffle and 20MB of memory - WOW (haha). My first introduction to computing was via Edlin and Dos. Since then I've had numerous computers - mainly laptops waltzing thru Windows 3.1, 95 98, Me, XP, Vista (VERY briefly) and finally 7. I'm not afraid to change settings and have even re-installed from disc my entire OS a couple of times - gritting teeth, pulling hair and cussing MS all the way.

So why am I here? I have zero experience with cell phones (live remotely and don't use that service) and after researching tablets (including reading some here) I recently purchased a Nexus 7. It is my understanding that I can 'expand' the limited (8GB) memory by way of OTG and flash drives but I first need to 'root' the Nexus. I have read the pretty detailed Guide for doing that here, copying the text over so I can highlight and have it as reference for when I do the actual process. But I am not sure about some of the steps and what the Guide might assume that I would know to do. So basically I'm looking for a little coaching, encouraging and hand holding if necessary. I will next be posting with as specific questions as I can think up to get my digital ducks in order before I whip my new Nexus into the dream machine I want it to be.

Thanks for allowing me to join in here and looking forward to any and all feedback too. :)

Welcome to AC!!

Very nice intro. I remember the olden days of DOS and 3.1. Lol.

Seems like you got a plan in place for rooting your 7, so, I wish you luck!!
