You need to push the file(copy and paste) it with a root/file(ES file explorer is great if you don't already have one) explorer to system/app. It doesn't just install.

I tried this procedure using Adao File Manager, ES File Explorer, and two other file managers and could not get the .apk file to transfer from my bluetooth folder into the phone storage (system/app).

The error messages varied from "insufficient permissions" to "copy failed". My Evo 4g is rooted with MiUI Ice Cream Sandwich. Is there some other extra step I might have to take to get the copy/paste to work?

Thanks, Renee

You need to set your file manager to have read/write permissions. It's been awhile since I used ES File Explorer, but I hink you need to enable the root explorer as well as mount storage. I'm guessing this is your issue.

You were correct. I missed mounting the storage after enabling the root explorer. I was able to successfully move the .apk files into the system/app folder. I then tried to install the app by clicking on the file but I got the message "application not installed" on both the stock HTC calendar .apk and the stock calculator .apk. I then unmounted the storage and disabled the root explorer and tried it again but it still didn't work.

Would it maybe have something to do with overwriting the existing app's? I did rename the two files because the system (MiUi) apps had the same name.

You don't install the App after you move it to /system/app. Once it's there, it's technically installed. If you renamed the existing APKs, then you're not overwriting them. Move the new files over to /system/app, fix permissions and reboot, then you should be good to go.

Although, let me make sure I have this straight. You're running MIUI on your HTC EVO 4G, and you want to use the stock HTC calendar and calculator instead of what comes with MIUI? I have no personal experience with MIUI, so I'm not sure that's even possible with MIUI being an AOSP ROM not built from a stock Sense ROM. I can't think of a reason why it would not work, but I thought I'd throw it out there that your issue could be a MIUI thing.

To be honest, if my replies don't help, you're probably better off posting this in the EVO 4G forum.

That may be why the HTC stock calendar and calculator aren't working..just an MIUI thing. The reason I wanted the stock ones is because I just didn't like the interface of the MIUI as much. The MIUI calculator is too plain..at least HTC's you could turn landscape and more options would be available. I'm getting used to the MIUI calendar and the trade off for having MY own phone and control far exceeds having to deal wiith an ugly calendar app..LOL

Thanks for taking the time to post all your advice :)
