I have the Samsung MHL adapter, when I use any other software on my phone I can get full widescreen in landscape mode, even within the netflix app I get widescreen for the menus but during actually netflix video play, I cannot get it to play in widescreen on my TV. It plays in widescreen on the phone fine, but the image on the television is square, and for some reason, the TV makes the picture ration menu unavailable when the evo is plugged into it.

Has anyone else had issues like this?

Re: Netflix over HDMI issue

I have the MHL adapter that T-Mobile sells in their stores. I played with mine last night and noticed on SOME of netflix shows its boxy.
Great example. i played Skyline to see how it looked, on mine it was widescreen and my TV auto set to 1080p. The audio was good but the picture quality was not so good.
I then watched a couple of TV shows and those were square, normal TV type of shows, not widescreen.
Going to test out the Blockbuster APP tonight and see if their video is any better quality.

For now what i have learned is if its a show i want to see great special effects with i need to rent BlueRay, if its an older movie or tv show and i dont need HD viewing, streaming with the MHL adapter works great.

Are you using the official netflix app, or one of the forum .apk's?

I am using the officail NetFlix app from the market.

I have downloaded the others out there but seems there is some discussion as to the claims of some of the apps. So untill it gets resolved i am sticking with the market app.

yeap I have had the same issue (UI pixelled) but my mhL was from Tmobile and I returned it back.
my tv was 1080p lcd brand new from toshiba and this phone is 1080p Its gotta be the mhL adapter....

I have the same MHL adapater from T-MO and i noticed a few things.
Using the official NexFlix app i wathced Pitch Black. The movie looked good.
I then watched a few episodes of Star Trek Voyager. That was grainy and sometimes out of sync.

I think it depends on what your streaming.

Downloaded the official netflic app and resolved the full screen issue, though I do not believe I am getting full HD anymore.

Official Netflix app through the MHL adapter to a 23" monitor is awful, to my 50" flat screen it's nauseating. It can't be this bad. What am I doing wrong?

I found it depends on 2 things. Bandwidth and what i was watching.

If i was watching something older then it was not in HD, or even in higher quality..
I watched several movies that were newer, Gamer for example, and it looked great.
You also have a setting in your account that allows for higher quality, more data to be streamed. By default its set to lower data/quality. Log into your NexFlix acct online and check.
