Android Central Question

When my phones mobile network is set to Lte/3g/2g and I do not have a Lte connection, apps like Instagram and facebook and even my browser just doesn't work.

It'll take forever to load and in the end it'll give me and unable to connect to the internet message on my browser.

Instagram doesn't refresh and video's aren't loading, the same with facebook and YouTube.

But then when I switch my mobile network to 3g/2g only, all of the above mentioned apps work.

It's been happening to me ever since my first Samsung Galaxy S2.

It is like the phone doesn't accept 3g/2g connections when you have Lte/3g/2g enabled.

Good day, I currently have the samsung galaxy note 10+.

Sometimes I do have my battery saver on my samsung on, but the same thing occurs if it's on or off.

I'm from South Africa and my service provider is MTN.

I travel a lot for business throughout the country and it is also irrespective from where I am.

Welcome to Android Central! Check with MTN to see if they've sunsetted 3G. Most carriers around the world have sunsetted 2G, and a lot are getting rid of 3G to accommodate the rise of 5G.

It is odd that it works when set exclusively to only 2 or 3G but not when it is set to use basically any mobile data it can connect to. What it sounds like is a situation I sometimes find myself in when I arrive home. Outside of my house I can pick up my WiFi signal but it is very weak however my device prefers WiFi to mobile data. So in your case it almost sounds like LTE is the preferred connection and if it is picking up even the slightest signal it doesn't want to switch to non-preferred signal type.

So let me ask you this, when this occurs does any data type display in the notifications bar? Does it show a 2 or 3G connection and just nothing happens, as you describe?

I guess my location question wasn't very well thought through... I say this because it obviously matters because it happens when you're in areas where the LTE signal is weak or there isn't one. The better question would be, If you are sitting, I'm picturing a bench in a park, don't know why, but you're sitting somewhere notice that you don't have LTE, have the three band connection selected and nothing is happening and then you switch to the two band connection without leaving that place everything works? I mean that is kind of what you describe but I ask this way to be sure that your carrier has towers that reach that location and other than the difference in settings from three bands to two bands is the only change.

Speaking of your carrier's coverage... Is Data Roaming an option that you use? Some carriers may block this and some may have surcharges if a device roams causing users to disable this setting to avoid fees.

You can check your connection status in Settings>About phone>SIM card status. There you can see what type of connection you have and how good the signal is. It will also show you if you're roaming.

Hi, welcome to AC!

How old your sim card?

It shows that it switched to 2g or 3g. I can still send and receive a sms as well as receive or make calls.

I do have data roaming as an option but it is not switched on.

In the town where I stay I have full bars 4g+.

My sim card is only 2 years old.

But this phenomenon has happened to me for the last 9 years. Ever since my first smart phone.

Probably something you should go in and talk to service provider maybe needs correct APN or try different service provider
