Hello all

I live outside the USA and new to android phones.

I have an unblocked Samsung Captivate. Just change carriers.

The network type indicator with my previous carrier was 3G. With this new carrier it shows a H.

And some times shows 3G.

I took my phone to the new carrier and they told me that since they network is 4G some Samsung phones shows H as network type and that's normal.

But, what does the H really means?

Thanks for your patiance.

By the way. I'm using MIUI ROM 1.11.4 with Android 2.3.7

The H means you are connecting with HSUPA, which increases your upload capacity from the purposely hobbled modem on the stock Captivate. All of them CAN be that fast, ATT just prevents it. With that ROM loaded, your phone appears to be a Galaxy S class phone instead, and gets to go just as fast as the iPhones do.

It however has nothing at all to do with 4G. That is probably because the ATT guy didn't know, or did not want to explain it :). It has nothing to even do with their HSPA+, that they are calling 4G.
