Every where I go, the bars are 0 or constantly bouncing to only 2 (mostly 0) or displayed is 1x instead of 3 g is there anything I can do besides returning the phone. This is killing my battery with in 5 hours with minimal use
Thanks in advance.

Dont go by the bars. Go off of dBm signal strength. The lower the number the better the signal (excluding the "-") i.e. -87>-93

Has this always been an issue?

Where can I find the dBm signal strength? I can't seem to find a setting. Do I need an app?

Thanks....

Which Radio/Baseband are you running?

I'm running -82dBm and only have 2 bars. Like stated above, the bars are not an accurate representation of the signal strength.

Changing to 1x when traveling around town. No radio running

What PvilleComp was asking was what internal radio(Baseband Software) are you running on your device? Not the fm radio app or anything like that.

Menu>Settings>About>Software>Baseband version

What does it say?

It should give accurate signal strength via the bars with the Android 2.2 upgrade.

download real signal from the marketplace. it works great. when my phone says zero bars, real signal shows 2 bars.

Do yourself a favor, do a factory reset, and start clean with the phone, I did it now I have -67DBm always a least 4 bars on street full bars. if you are rooted do a factory reset as well help alot!! in fact everybody with 2.2 froyo must do after update or before root is highly recommend. I did it after root my Dinc with Froyo, now my phone is so smooth, fast and i can't find any single lag or problem.

bars

I am on my 3rd Inc. First one the optical pad was dead. Second one I had dropped calls and was running -61 to -82 dbm. When I had -60s, my sons Ally was at -85 in the same location. I received the 3rd one yesterday, and the signal is still fluctuating from -62 to -90. The -80 plus is rare. I will see how this one goes.

The lower the number the better the signal you have. -62 is a better signal than -82. Also you are comparing your incredible's signal strength to an Ally which is a completely different device with a different radio, of course they arent going to be the same.

Just for kicks here's my baseband version:
2.15.00.07.28
I also have poor indicated signal strength. Just about the only time I see full bars is at home two blocks away from a tower.
Thanks for the frame of reference on the signal
Currently showing 2 bars with -98db
