Never Rooted before

I want to Root and have never done this before. I have read and read and I just need to know where to begin. I have an EVO 2.2 vERSION 3 2.10. I just need a little help PLEASEEEEEE

One other question. What is the difference between this method and Unrevoked? I notice this method takes you back to 2.1. I know these are dumd questions but I am just trying to get a better understanding.

check your hboot version, if its 2.02 then search that version to root with

Okay, I am looking at instructions here on Rooting. It says download SDK FILE. Where are these files?

Biggjd69 I used this method flawlessly I highly recommend it this method pretty much did everything for me with out a hitch I to used the other methods before and I thought I knew everything about rooting but when I got this new device and there coming with new hboot around the time I got my phone a week ago I hadn't realized the new hardware came with the newer hboot so I have the same specs you do but mine is hboot 2.02 and this method works for both mine and yours and that is if you didn't do the update and then try this but if you just have a fresh phone this is where you should go then you'll be on to flashing you should download the auto root with pc36 file so it will flash it for you instead of you stopping and wait then have to it manual and get confused by when the computer should take over lol but just wanted to make sure your all set and know the basics go here and read everything before attempting ok here's the link

Though there's an unrevoked alternative for your software version.

have been trying that one. followed that video to the letter after it gets to the part where you type ./rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin and enter it spits out some text and turns off adb connection , i get the part where C:\ android\tools comes back but when i type adb shell i get error: device not found and then i'm stuck. HELP
By the way the phone now has hboot 2.10 and software build of 3.70.651.1
last line after ./rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin i get says [*]adb connection will be reset. restart adb servier on desktop and re-login. only way to get adb back up is to turn phone off the on and re-connect but will still show adb shell $.
so i'm stuck there is there a way to unmount sdcard and drag and drop from pc to the card????
or a different way to root this damn phone (all this damn bloatware ,no wifi tether or custom rom) i need help big time.

With that 3.7 software version and 2.10 hboot you need to use an updated root method:
