New 1.3 software for NC

What's new in Ver1.3.0?
. The NOOK Color Ver1.3.0 update contains new features and enhancements, including:
•Access to a selection of new special edition NOOK Magazines -- People, Time, Sports Illustrated, Fortune, Parents, and Fitness – featuring print edition content, plus video, audio and fun extras.
•Access to the largest digital magazine selection available anywhere.
•Print subscribers to People, Time, Sports Illustrated, and Fortune get free NOOK editions of those magazines.
•Parental control to easily disable the Web browser.
•Ongoing enhancements to Wi-Fi connectivity and other performance improvements.

I'd be interested in exactly what the last point entails.

I'd wait until someone reviews it because if you are rooted, as I am, it will probably break root and hose other things. I made that mistake once, not doing it again! ;)

Mine has been turning pages all on its own since I downloaded the 1.3 update. I mean it will go through an entire book in 300 seconds if the book is 300 pages long. One page every second! If I go back a page, it keeps going all the way back to the beginning. I may have to root the thing to make it stop. My Nook is bone-stock. My phone and computers aren't.

Solved: My first reboot still had the little green "n" in the taskbar. the second reboot got rid of it, and, the self-turning pages.

Well, I've been waiting at least 10 minutes now for the update to finish but all I have is the little green guy with a white triangle over his head and a yellow exclamation mark inside it and I don't have a clue what's going on. I'd really rather not shut it down and restart it, but if something doesn't change in the next 10 minutes, I'm going back to CM7 off the SD card!

Installed fine here, haven't noticed anything different, though I'll likely have to wait a while before I can root it now. Took less than 10 minutes to download and install the update.

the only noticeable change I see is when you press the "shop" button...the gui changed a lot and there are more magazines available.

All I keep getting now is:

Failed to verify whole-file signature
signature verification failed
install aborted

Seems to me it ought to be easier than this...

If the Clockwork Recovery is failing on the manual, chances are it's probably going to fail on the push as well. Since my Nook Color is also running CM7 off an SD card, if I don't do the manual, I might not ever see the push. I want to keep my Nook Color up to date though should I ever need to call on the warranty.

We are talking about the stock ROM, I'm not sure CWR is on the stock ROM. In any event a manual update is launched at boot while the auto update runs after the device is already running. I don't think there will be an issue....

Everything I read tells me it is. And my NC is only rooted when I have that particular SD card in it that has Cyanogen on the card. Once I remove the card, I'm running straight NC operating system.

The reason one can no longer view the majority of their files on the NC of course is due to B&N's idiotic move to give you only 1G that you can actually do anything with when you connect to your PC/laptop though I'm sure you knew that. But not only have they effectively given us a product that for all intents and purposes now only has 1G of storage rather than the 8G promised, they've taken the ability away to fix things unless the NC is rooted.

I would like the update to keep my warranty valid. In order to do that, I either need to download the update manually or remove my SD card with Cyanogen on it and just leave it laying around until they decide to push it. I thought I'd update since they're touting that option.

Wrong idea, I guess.

My wife's is still stock. I left it on last night for a while and nothing pushed yet. No rush so I am not going to manually update it. When it comes.... it comes. :D

@Tigrisan...was the amount of space available to users more before the 1.3 update?

The amount of space available to users in the original OS was I think, 6G. When they did the Froyo type update, they decided that people had way too much potential to mess things up so cut the usable, or space-you-can-actually-get-to down to 1G. They hid the other 7G which to me is totally stupid. When you plug your NC into your laptop/PC, the 'unused' space will most likely say 1G. You can't get to the other 7 unless you root it.

You still have the 6GB of space, they just partitioned it differently. Now the 1GB of space that you see is for additional media such as music, photos, etc. The other 5GB is where all the apps and books downloaded from B&N go. They didn't actually take any space away. I think part of the reason is they wanted to make sure you don't fill it all up so that when you try to download larger files such as magazine subscriptions you still have space.
