The Google Play edition devices, HTC One and Samsung S4 come with the new Android 4.3 camera UI / camera app that we as Nexus 4 owners don?t have @ this point and will not have until Google pushes out the 4.3 update. Is anyone else a little pissed about this? ??.. I really have enjoyed my N4 and would love to see the improved UI in the camera app as well as support for Bluetooth Smart.

Edit: Just found a download for the new camera app if anyone is interested in installing.Googleeditioncamera.apk

Nah. This just means that our update is just around the corner and will have a lot more to it than just a new camera ui.

not at all. its just an app with some menu and feature changes.

I was hoping they push this app to playstore so that everyone can use the photosphere feature.
although, I am not sure how they are going to deal with gallery app since camera is tightly integrated with it.

Edit: never mind gallery app and camera app are the same

I installed the camera and I like the menu better now. I like the little thumbnail it briefly shows, allowing you to tap on it if you want to preview the photo. I love the fact that you can now take a picture with the volume rocker!!

Already have it...well before most anyone has a GE device LOL. Nexi FTW. BTW it's just an app update...nothing has changed for the Nexi program. Just more "almost vanilla" options...and that's good.

Any Changes In the pictures Quality?

Too soon to say for sure...want to avoid the placebo. I'm not a professional photographer by any means, but I've been able to capture some really, really nice photos on my N4. Up there with any device I have owned or used including the iphone5 (most all flagships across platforms). Of course I've taken plenty of crappy ones to delete, too, but no more than my old i4/s,GS3 or GN2. I will say it's very cool how the picture you just snapped now goes up into the right corner and then exits stage right.

Does it properly show all the thumbnails and images in the Auto Backup folder when there are 1000+ images in the folder?

Its a really nice update especially as we can now use the volume keys as a camera button

I'm with you, I have taken some really nice photos with my N4. Don't understand why people keep dissing the camera.

The gallery apps are separate. On my Rezound I had the ICS gallery installed along side the HTC gallery. They were separate apps. The ICS gallery is even on the Play store I think.

Nah it is tied to one app, GalleryGoogle.apk. It's what allows it to seamlessly merge with the gallery like when you swipe from the camera screen to scroll through your pictures, etc. Whichever you used on your Rezound was probably not the official apk as it has not been made available from Google in the Play Store... (small chance I am mistaken as I don't remember 100% if ICS camera app was designed this way as well or that was a JB thing..)

I used it, I hated it. The "half circle" of options is pretty but very impractical in use. Much prefer my own.

Incorrect.

You owned the Rezound? I had no idea, you only mention it in every post.

I just installed the leaked 4.3 camera onto my roommate's stock Galaxy S3...guess what? He now has two gallery apps. Both work completely independently of each other. He has two cameras as well. His 4.3 camera works great. (the native gallery is WAY better than that stupid touchwiz one too. He loves it. he found the touchwiz one unnecessarily confusing and cluttered.)

On the Rezound it was the same way. I had the "official" gallery app native to my phone, and the ICS gallery app alongside it. Both worked independently...one did not replace the other. - https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...ails?id=com.moblynx.galleryics&token=vNSpDDRf - The whole reason I got it was to escape Sense. I hated the Sense gallery.

I found it way faster to navigate than any other UI I have tried so far. But the native camera's features are a bit sparse compared to Touchwize and Sense. And it is definitely slower.

So when you installed the 4.3 camera and gallery, did you install one apk or two apks? The reason he has both is because you did not remove the 4.2.2 camera and gallery. That apk is located in system/app, while installing the 4.3 as an apk thru normal installation installs it to data/app. Otherwise one would overwrite the other.

Edit: what I did to remove the original camera was rename the apk and odex file with .bak behind them.

you guys should be really careful when you get android 4.3. this might break the compatibility check when it tries to update(update might fail)

renaming system gallery app could cause this issue.
