New 5G BlackBerry in 2021.

That's not going to last forever, though. I just hope that BB has enough runway to weather this before possibly getting any traction.

Well BlackBerry doesn’t need any runway since it’s Onward Mobile taking all the risk. Unfortunately, I’m really not able to find where OM has any money.

Because a PKB phone isn't a "normal" phone?

A PKB isn't necessary to most, but it's a very valuable feature to have if you want to enjoy the typing experience.

Most people that haven't tried one in years just fail to see the benefit, and it's to be expected.

Kind of like if I said "no one needs an OLED screen, an LCD does the job just fine. While that's technically true, once you stare at an OLED, you appreciate it and probably don't want to go back to the LCD.
Except that LCD is more emblematic of the keyboard since it was the predecessor to OLED.

Which is normal if you don't work for OM...

That’s not so. I’m pretty good at digging companies up. Plus companies don’t as normal case for attracting customers make their situation completely obscure. If there’s really a consumer possibility, it’s counterproductive to operate like this.

Looks promising, BlackBerry devices were monarchs of the mobile world, but then Android and iOS took off
Especially when they decided to waste billions on a third OS named BB10 instead of just adopting Android in 2012 when they still had relevance.

Could well have been a different story if it wasn't for two stupid and arrogant CEO's.
This can't be said enough. Must be kicking themselves lol.

By now we could have had a consistent yearly release cycle for an all-touch, a slider and candybar PKB line of devices, had they adopted Android about 3-4 years earlier.

I heard they were forced to dump tens (or hundreds?) of thousands of Z10's and Q10's after the disastrous launch of BB10, which was at the time a very beta/unpolished OS, and came at a time where it was too late for a third OS anyways.

I completely agree with you boon.

That's so sad. I really loved my Q10 and thought it was very innovative for its time. But at that point I hadn't used Android just yet and so I wonder what my impressions of BB10 would be if I'd tried it now.

I recently received a Classic that I'm just messing around with and am waiting for a Silver Edition Passport to come in.

The rational part of me:

"You're insane, stop buying BB10 devices, they're 5-6 years old, and basically stuck on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean"

The fanboy part:

"Look at how iconic and different these phones are...you know want them...especially that Silver Passport to go with your Silver KEY2...don't add to eBay cart...don't, don't checkout, you don't need this...annnnd I bought it "

Maybe. They were huge but would have had to admit that change was coming and their platform was going to die. I can see where that might have been a challenge.

Ahh, the Classic. That was my favorite.

My last BB10 phone was the Z30 and thankfully it was my transition to poking glass. Purchased in 2014 and it's still mint with a battery that still runs almost as good as when new.

... Yeah, I can see myself reacting the same way! I still loved how iconic and varied the BB10 series and OS was. How you got notifications was pretty top-notch, as well. BB Hub was pretty great.
