New Android User

I'm new to Android and I bought myself the S4. There are two things I'm struggling with atm. First, I keep getting ads which make icons. example if I open an email then suddenly I get this page that opens up on the browser and it saves an icon which I then delete. How do I get it to stop doing that?

Second.. theres a tool bar (I think its called?) on the LHS of the screen. How do I switch that on/off? One minute its there and the next its gone?

For the second, you must be talking about the multi-window drawer. To toggle it on/off hold back softkey.
