New battery but device won't switch on?

So my old battery packed up (it wouldn't charge at all) so I purchased a new battery from eBay. The new battery was cheap (£5) but was from a reputable seller, the device however still won't even turn on? How long should it need to charge for before it switches on? What's going on? Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Thanks

Welcome to Android Central! The battery might be defective. Most batteries ship out with about half charge, so they should work right out of the box. If it doesn't work after charging up overnight, call the seller and ask for an exchange or refund.
