I updated the camera firmware and noticed a huge difference in processing speed of taking shots. It's so much faster now. The autofocus also got fixed. This is how the pixel should've launched. Anyone else noticed this update?

Interesting i haven't tried. I'll check in the morning.

What great features to have as a result of the camera update! Thanks for letting us know!

I had an update last week for the camera on the 4XL (8.4.400.423370569.19).
Update description is:

So i just snapped a couple of pictures and i agree much faster. Sometimes when I click the photo immediately after snapping the photo the "processing" is almost missed i see it slightly for like a split second. This is great.

Is the Night Sight feature slower than it used to be? I have a P6P and it seems to take several seconds to take the shot. My last Pixel was a 4XL and I don't recall the shots using Night Sight taking nearly as long . . . but perhaps it did.

Perhaps slower is better for Night Mode. More light taken in Makes sense to me.

Remember the pixel 4 xl had that special Neuro core ship or whatever purposely to help with the picture processing. I know tensor has something as well i believe but I think the pixel 4 was still faster if I recall. Tensor will increase performance over time supposedly. Also the faster processing for normal light images seems to be an indicator.

My last update to Google Camera was 4 days ago (1/21) which was 8.4.400.423370569.19.

Can one of you confirm that this is what you have? I haven't really noticed any difference.

Version 8.4.400.423370569.19

That's the updated version. I take alot of pictures reason why I purchased the pixel. I noticed instantly of the faster processing and faster auto focus. It was a huge update it was around 318 mb. The update happened in the camera app not the Google play store for some reason.

I haven't noticed any difference, however, just took a few photos of ice covered trees. So easy to process, no moving target to shoot.

What do you mean the update happened in the camera app and not Google play??

Mine is running the latest, and I have not been to the play store for close on to a month. There is an auto-update feature you can turn On. All my apps update without not human intervention; other than security and OS.

I know you don't have to go to the play store to update your apps if you have auto updates turned on, but the other person said it updated within the app itself.

The biggest change that I've noticed with the latest update to the camera is that the zoom lens and switching to the zoom lens works smoothly now. There used to be a question about whether or not you are actually using four time zoom or whether you are cropping in Well now, every single time you zoom in past 4x, then the 4x zoom lens gets activated as opposed to a crop in. It works very well. It was a great update to the camera. The camera is way snappier and the bokeh effect looks way more natural in portrait mode as well.

"Within the App" Is he trying to say he opened the app and then it paused and updated? As long as it is updated; that's the important thing.
