New contact save to Google account by default?

Is there a way around this? Everytime I add a new contact, the dropdown selection is set to phone instead of Google account. Sometimes I might forget to change it manually, and I lost a few contacts when I did a factory reset.

Saving one new contact to Google should do the trick.

I have the same problem and it's making me have to change to google for every contact, not just the first time. For me, it's happening on my S8+
