Hey everybody, dropping by to say hey to all the fellow One owners. I originally upgraded my S2 to the S4 and held onto it for 10 days. Decided to give the HTC One a run and boy am i happy i did. S4 is an amazing/powerful device and i actually have a soft spot for touch wiz. But for me HTC One just fit me. Anyway was curious if its worth it root this phone and go with a custom rom. The only things id like to change is toggles in the notification bar(brightness, volume, wifi, ect...) which i was able to do with widgetsoid. The other two issues id like to fix are getting rid of the 3 dot menu bar and possibly give battery life a boost. Otherwise im really enjoying the One. What are your guys/girls recommendations? Oh yeah and my carrier is sprint as im sure that'll make a difference in my options.
Thanks

There is a free app called Power Toggles that gives you Touchwiz like controls in the notification bar, but far more customisable, as well as the usual wifi/gps etc mine has things like the clock and flashlight in it so they are quick and easdy to get to.

The next update to Android 4.2.2 will include a quick settings mode that does the same thing, but that will get here when it gets here, no matter what the rumours say.

The menu bar is with us until devs decide to update their apps to Googles latest specifications I'm afraid, HTC are just following their hardware guidelines so we have to wait for the software to catch up.

Glad you are enjoying your One!

I use an app call Notification Toggles - works great!
I believe a guy on XDA has a mod to get rid of the 3 dot menu on some apps (Go Launcher EX, etc.) but I have not tried it yet
Batteryguru for Snapdragon by Qualcomm may help with battery, but I prefer to sync at specific times with automation which puts my battery out to long past bed time with moderate use.

Welcome to the club/cult/community convert! :)

I've unlocked and rooted my one. Running a stock rom without the three dots. My HTC logo is the menu button now. I would suggest rooting for this feature.

Sent from my HTC One using AC Forums mobile app

Ι also use Power Toggles and you can manually add what you want so no problem.
Battery life is usually good, so check it out and see if you want more.
Most people that root don't like Sense, but I kind of like it. So I kept Blinkfeed and use it along with Nova Launcher.
I've heard something about 4.2.2 getting rid of the three dots and adding a "hold" Home button that will get the menu. I'm not sure if it is true tough.

The 4.2.2 update from HTC will allow you to map the menu key to the home button, at the moment it is mapped to home (tap) recent apps (double tap) and Google Now (long tap). The update will give you the option to use it as a menu key if that's what dunks your biscuit.
