Hi everyone, I just got my X and I love it. My problem is I had some old ringtones saved on my email so I downloaded them to my phone and I also got a few soundboards and ringtones from the marketplace and saved them to specific contacts for ringtones. This morning none of them work and they all say unknown ringtone when I go to the contact to edit them. I also went to my Zedge app and tried to play a few different ringtones and that wont even work. So to sum up all the ringtones ive put on the phone none of them work they just play some bell ringtone. Also I cant even go to my ringtone app and play a ringtone and listen to it. What has happened and why? They were working fine last night.

Happy Holidays Owtkast,,, try rebooting the device, also try to manually remove SD card and put it back in. if this does not work try to move ringtone files to root of the card. If you are rooted and have root explorer moving these files onto the phone itself may solve your problem..... most likely the problem is that is having trouble recognizing this over the SD card

Also you need to set up folders on the SD card. Make new folders if you don't have them yet for: ringtones, music, notifications, alarms, vidoes, movies, etc... and place the files in the correct folders.

Thanks for the advice guys but I don't have any idea how to do that stuff. No clue what rooted or un is. How do I set up folders for the sd card?

Also I just noticed when I went to use my camera and camcorder that neither of them work. I can't even open the camera. Frustrating

Ok lets start by checking your SD card, Shut off your phone, remove the back cover, remove the battery , then remove the SD card, it will be a card in metal shielding. after you remove it, re insert it in the same slot. put the battery back in the phone and turn it back on. after it boots up it will scan and mount the card, it will tell you it is doing this at the top in the notification bar. then try to use your camera or ringtones. then please report back here and let us know the results good or bad please

Droidxcon, I did all that and it is working again for the moment. I still don't know how to make files and such or even check the SD card etc...

Great, the problem is that your phone for some reason was not seeing your SD card so it couldnt find the ringtones, and the camera wont work unless you have a place to store the photos.,,,,, so if this happens again you know its the SD card.

That being said if this a consistent problem you may want to look into getting a new SD card or returning the device altogether and let them know you are having a hardware issue.

So now my next question will be are you familiar with computers enough that you can make folders and transfer files and what not on microsoft windows .

if you are i will walk you through how to do this.

Droidx, yes sort of kind of. I am posting from my phone right now but I will be home later will this will be easier can I message you later tonight after all the family gatherings?

DroidXcon, I have a question for you that is kinda related to this. I posted a thread yesterday but have gotten no responses about how to keep your custom ringtones out of your music player when looking at albums ect. Ive tried 3-4 different music players and all will lump the albums and each 30 sec ringtone into the list of music that is on my X, is there a way to filter the ringtones out of the music players?

Thanks for any help you can give

I'll try and pic this one up before I fall asleep, lol. First off, are you using the stock music player? If so, my best guess would be that your music might not be fully tagged with the album/artist info or the tones are tagged like music so the player is putting them in the same list. I use the stock player and I don't have any of my ring tones in the album list. As far as filtering them out, it would be difficult for the app to tell the difference between mp3 tracks.

Try creating seperate folders for everything. Works for me. From your computer go to your SD card and create new folders for music, ringtones, alarms, videos, movies...etc.

I did hook my phone up to my laptop and when in and created separate folders for my ringtones and music but they all still get bunched together. As to what music player Im using it does it for all that Ive tried, the stock music player, Winamp, "3" ect. I even went into "3" and picked the folder I wanted the player to use for music and the ringtones still get included. Where exactly did you put your ringtones? I put mine in the media folder in a folder called ringtones.

I didn't make any sub folders. All the new folders I made are directly on the path of the SD card. I'll take another look and see if I can figure out something for you.

OK...looked around. The ringtone shouldn't show up in the media player if you put the ringtones folder directly onto the path of the sd card. Right now it should look like: SD>Media>Audio>Ringtones.
What I did to my phone when I first got it was I erased the media folder and made all new folders on the SD card.
SD>ringtones
SD>music
......videos
......movies
......alarms
......notifications

If you still have a problem try using a media player that lets you select the destination folder like Mixzing or Cubed.

I tried creating the separate folders like you suggested but they still get all lump together, I just don't know what I'm doing that is screwing everything up. Ive already tired Cubed and tried again after creating all the separate folders and even after selecting that the player only use the music folder the ringtones still get lumped in with them.
