New Evo owner

After waiting for a Palm Pre successor on Sprint, I finally decided to go with the Evo. I must confess myself bored. As an avid iPod touch user I've always found an app to satisfy my needs. On the Android Market, I have yet to find the app that I really want to use. Any suggestions ?
I was used to having IM and text in one app is there an equal? And why is an AntiVirus app recommended?

Compared to the rooting of a webos device or jailbreaking an Apple device, rooting an Android device seems dangerous(like losing 4G) What's up with that?

Congrats on your EVO, jboy! Don't pay too much attention to the occasional horror story you hear about when someone has a bad flash or rooting attempt on Android. It doesn't happen as much as your think and 99% of the time its reversible/fixable.
