Here you will find a list of battery options for the Evo 4g. This thread is designed to replace this older one.

Internal Battery Pro's and Con's: Internal Batteries are usually Lithium-ion, though sometimes I've come across 3rd party internal batteries made with Nickel-metal hydride (NiMH).
Pro's: Take up less space then having a completely separate unit.
Con's: Slightly more expensive then other solutions and exposed contacts if you want to pocket a 2nd battery.

Sealed External Battery Pros: Sealed external batteries use either Lithium-ion or Lithium-ion polymer batteries. The primary advantage of these over AA Nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) batteries is that you can recharge them even when they are only partially discharged. NiMH batteries suffer from "memory effect" where the total charge they can hold is reduced to you do not completely discharge them before recharging.

AA External Battery Pack Pros: AA rechargable batteries are Nickel-metal hydride (NiMH). The advantages of these are that they are somewhat cheaper, you can keep putting in fresh AA batteries, and in a pinch you can use normal alkaline non-rechargeable AA batteries.


Prices are the first ones I came upon and do not include any shipping or tax fees if applicable. Nor are these necessarily the best prices you can find. They are listed in United States dollars. Prices are current as of 07/03/2010

I actually like those cheap "mobile recharging" things. You put in a AA battery then connect it to your phone. It charges the phones battery. Keep a few rechargable batteries with you, of if you don't have any AA's you can always pick them up at any gas station or walmart. Dollar General or Big Lots too. Those cheap batteries suck in life span, but do charge the phones well.

These are all sealed self contained battery packs that come with their own chargers. No AA's involved.

I guess I will start looking up AA solutions and give them their own section.

They all have at least 1 standard USB jack you can plug any device's charging cable into.

While I am traveling and moving through airports, you can't plug in because you are moving, and if the charge has already been used on the sealed batteries, you are sol. The AA battery functions nice for my needs because I can charge anytime I need to, and keep charging after the initial charge has been spent. Long plane rides watching movies will drain the hell out of a sealed unit and then what do you do, while trying ot hop on the next flight?

For me the AA works nicely.

I got my seidio 3500 mah battery for the evo on friday and thought i'd share a bit. i charged it all night and popped it in saturday at 10am and after a heavy day of usage i got my first "battery low" message a couple minutes ago (12%, 9:30pm). The replace backing is a bit cheap looking and doesn't match the original "look" but it's close enough. I thought the added thickness would be a problem but I find holding the evo is actually more comfortable. I wish I had waited and purchased this battery instead of getting a mugen 1800 mah battery. the mugen performed slightly better than the stock battery. the problem now is that if i want to use either the stock or mugen battery, i have to carry the stock backing.

i received the seidio 3500 battery yesterday. i installed the battery straight out of the box and used on and off until about 10PM last evening. since about 10PM i decided to run down the battery and do a full charge. i changed settings and turned on 4g, gps, bluetooth, display never off, turned off wifi and turned on slacker. it is now 10:17AM and i have been running the EVO continuously since last PM. the battery has drained down to 12%, more than 12 hrs after 1st use out of box with no charging. this is great and bodes well for the future. an extended battery is definitely a good way to roll with an EVO

Got my Seidio 3500 battery yesterday, and took it off the charger this morning (7/20/2010) at 0800. It is now 1000 and the battery indicator shows close to full still, after two hours of intended heavy usage. Guess this is a good sign.

I like the added bulk too, especially when typing in landscape mode. It also is steardier when I use the kick-stand. Before I had a protected case, which made kick-stand use unstable.

I think I'm going to order another one, as my back up battery, and that should effectively give me enough security in leaving the house with no fear of running out of juice... for days!

i just got the Evo4g Seidio 3500mah battery. It looks good. the only part that is deeper is just in the area where the battery sits. A couple small bars in the cover come up on each side and just to the top of the camera lens. This is going to be nice, since I have been worried that I was going to scratch the lens, since it sits just above the case in the normal battery configuration. Also, now it is much much easier to hold the phone with out worrying about it slipping out of my hand, and especially when trying to type with one hand. I got it from Seidio direct for $69.99 plus shipping, but later saw the same battery on Amazon for $53.99 including shipping.

Happy with the Seidio 3500. Makes the phone bulkier but it is not svelte anyway. I used a similar sized battery on my Pre where it did look awkward. But I want to be able to use all the features of the phone without worrying about battery life.

Had a chance to install and use the 3500 battery this weekend and I love it! Feels fine in my pocket and is easier to hold. Half way through the day watching youtube videos at work via 4g and I'm at 75%.
