New Extended Battery Options Thread

I think it should be noted that batteries may not actually give you the rated mAH as listed, Battery Boss should be testing these new batteries soon, Seidio's 1750 mAH will most likely not outperform the 1500 mAH

finally got mine today, and since nobody posted photos i will.

just a few thoughts:

the battery once installed feels absolutely fine, it is thicker but it does not get in the way of the palm of my hand making it feel uncomfortable. as far as heavyness i cant tell the difference. as far as the backing its a flat black in color and feels good but i can tell the outer coating is thin so i would assume the coating will eventually come off. the plastic is harder than the oem backing SO DO NOT BEND IT IN ANYWAY. the oem bends but i would not suggest bending this backing even to see how flexible it is, especially by the lower right corner where the kickstand is.

the backing snaps on and snaps off (remember to remove start at the top and work along the sides. putting it on is the reverse) i dont see the tabs snapping off unless your forcing it off and by removing it or putting it on the incorrect way.

i do notice that if you push the center of the back cover with the battery in the phone that the sides due tend to pop up about 1mm. the backing doesnt come loose or off but the sides due come up. i dont really care about that but maybe some of you may. i personally will be getting the hard plastic "case" so i wont see this lifting anyway.

and finally,

i think majority of the people by looking at the website photos believe its bulky, it doesnt look good and is heavy and will get in the way. all i can say is just like those that said the evo phone was too big, and when you finally got it in your hands you said to yourself "the phone is big but it actually fits in my hands perfectly" i have a feeling you will have the same thoughts when you get the battery in hand and its on the phone. its definitely does not get in the way and looks much better in person than on a computer screen.

I just ordered the 3500 mah battery from Amazon. Has anyone got any criticism of the battery other than maybe some added bulk that has already been discussed? I was just curious if all who bought it are happy with the performance? Thanks.

I bought the 3500 seidio battery from Amazon, it works great and last all day, I cut a rubber htc skin to fit, a credit card was the perfect size, kinda a homade evo bumper. Love the way it feels and looks. Not much thicker once skin is on.

i have had the 3500 battery and am satisfied. the extended case came today, i don't know, it is Ok.the surface is easier to hold on to than the phone by itself. the extended "case" is more like another more substantial back for the battery. there is no thickness or cushion, much protection for the rest of the phone. i'm hoping the grippable surface is all the protection i'll need

Small update after using the battery for a few days. I've been able to get through a solid day and a half with about 10% left before recharging. I feel like I get at least 2X the time between recharges. Very satisfied thus far! :p

Mugen, thanks for the review. I got my battery a couple of days ago and can not add much to what you wrote. The "bulk" (and I use the term loosely), really does not add much to the phone. In fact, as others have written, it actually helps the phone feel more solid in your hand. I am a happy camper

Do you have a side image with the battery in the phone? I would like to see how thick it is. Thanks

I just measured the thickness of my Evo with the 3500 and it's 18.5 mm or 0.728 inches. Stock is listed as 12.7 mm or 0.5 inches. An increase of 30% but I hardly notice the thickness....the fact my phone still has juice is the shocker haha.

photos make the lines seem sharp and boxy looking but everything is smooth and flows pretty good. its just one of those things you have to look at in hand to get the real feel of it.

also if you take an american penny thats as thick the phone is with the extended battery and backing. 18.5mm the penny should measure 19mm. to give you a better idea of how thick. so far with half a charge (battery came half charged) its lasted 1 day and 14 hours. it was nice looking at the phone last night and saying "nah, ill be good all day tomorrow) and i was, today i didnt have a worry at all. i did see my friends plugging their phone in although....lol sukkas my average usage with the oem battery lasted from 6am to 12noon by then my phone was at 10% and the reminder would come on.

and like i said if you push down on the middle of backing one side just pop up a bit. i dont really care, but maybe some are that picking. but rest assured the back cover is much more attached to the phone than the oem, beside this particular problem.

my suggestion is buy it, test it for a week, then decide to keep it or not. so you loose money shipping it back to seidio if you dont like it, its worth the amount time in getting to use it and seeing first hand that its not that big like everyone who hasnt bought it says it is, and how everyone says it looks weird even though they never held it in their hand.

buy it, try it then make your final descion on the entire product.

since i've had the 3500 battery i am able to just use my evo and not worry about power management. i plug it in when i plug it in. off the plug all day at work and driving here and there around town. day trip planned this weekend. that will test out door practicality

I just wanted to add that I have been using this battery 3500 and innocase extended case for a few days. It's been great, lasts all day under super heavy usage and is not that big and as others said it's kinda nice to hold, feels solid, extra lip is nice when holding /typing and sits better on kickstand.

The extended 3500mAh battery seems like the way to go though I am concerned about the cover "popping out" as mugen notes. I would hope that the Innocase Extended case would cover this so that you not have the sides of the cover being raised.

What will keep me from doing the above option is that there is not good case that can be used to protect the phone with the 3500mAh battery. The Innocase Extended case only protects from scratches (as per Seido).

Being a klutz, I need a case that will protect the phone from drops, bums, etc.. like the otterbox. As such I will most likely have to get an external battery that will charge the EVO.

Doc

been using the "case" for several weeks now, ill get some clear photos soon for those that are undecided. and some opinions as well.

okay, after careful consideration, I have decided to order the seidio 3500. While I have no trouble making it through a normal day with my Evo, I use the extra features sparingly. I leave GPS turned off, don't leave apps running that poll the servers for updates etc. I want to use these features at will, without worrying that my battery will be dead by 5pm.

I can think of a hundred different things I could do with the Setting Profiles app alone. I want to use this phone to it's full potential. Where is the best place to order the battery from? I see that it is only $65 on Amazon, but how fast will it arrive? Thanks

I have used extended batteries on all my smartphones. Many like to carry extra batteries. But to me that means the hassle of changing batteries and the even greater hassle of keeping track of extra batteries and chargers. I mostly need the extra power when I travel (at my desk it does not matter) and when I travel I don't need to have extra stuff to keep track of and manage.
