I use liquid ROM. I've always used their room. Aokp is great as well. I just like to have the ability to shrink my nav bar and change the color. U will notice the difference in battery life. Since u do have a 4g phone. You can search the gnex fourms to find the best ROM/kernel combo.

The Nexus is a great phone in terms of getting updates and pure andriod, but the Verizon version suffers from bad battery performance due to LTE and it's nearly a year old. Not a big deal if you buy an extra battery, but since you're coming from an iPhone I'm concerned about your expectations. Jelly Bean is smooth and stable... great software update. If you're looking to go back to a Android based phone, get the Razr HD Maxx coming out in the coming 1-2 months (rumored). Great battery life, well built hardware, and a nice screen.
For pure Android enthusiasts (myself), the Nexus is the only way to go for quick updates (in the GSM model) and a pure android experience.

I have a GSM nexus and I love it... I won't use anything besides pure android devices.

P.S. you posted this in the GSM Nexus forum... the Verizon forum is separate.

First, I recommend the Verizon Galaxy Nexus forums and Verizon Galaxy Nexus Rooting, ROM's, and Hack's. These forums here are for the GSM model of the Galaxy Nexus.

Light Flow works great for me, not sure what problems others are having.

I fear this is off topic, but you mentioned the Razr HD Maxx, so I figure it's okay. Is the bootloader locked down on the Razr HD Maxx? From some very initial searching, it looks like you can put CM10 on the Razr and Razr Maxx. Is the HD model any different? Might be able to put a custom ROM on it?

I love pure android. But if you are into custom ROMs you really don't need a nexus. Just get a solid phone. Like the s3, the lg opt G , HTC1x/+ and put a custom ROM on it.
