New to this forum. Wife and I both use Galaxy Phones, S9 & S10 respectively. Currently looking to add a chromebook to our computing arsenal. Currently desktop pc with windows 10, a acer laptop for the wife. Want to get chromebook for more casual use, ie. browsing, email, facebook and you tube. Flexibility of not being tied to the desk in my office with the pc is appealing. I have been looking at 14" acer and asus chromebooks (acer 715 and asus c425) Wondering id these are good choices.

Both Asus and Acer make great chromebooks. A good place to learn more about chromebooks in general is www.chromeunboxed.com

I have an HP 14 for my mum. Lovely chromebook for a low budget. I am using a Pixelbook, which is far the other end. I find Chromebooks great for browsing and basic tasks. Suits me perfectly.

It might be out of your budget range, but the Pixel Slate line is on fire sale now, and you can get one for as low as $499 (including the keyboard and a pen). I have the i5 Slate, and it's terrific. The one going for $499 now is the m3 version, which isn't quite as powerful, but for most users, it should be more than adequate.

Welcome to the forums. Chromebook devices aren't as bad as some of the tech sites say. Depending on what you use a PC for, it may be able to replace Windows.

Agreed. I use Chromebooks about 99% of the time, and although I wouldn't call myself a mega power user, I do feel that I do more on computers than the average person who just uses it for browsing, social media, media consumption, word processing, and light gaming (e.g., I use mine to log in remotely to my hospital's electronic medical record via Citrix). The only time I really have to use a PC is when using my printer's scanning function, but Chrome OS is supposed to get a native scanning app soon: https://9to5google.com/2020/03/11/chrome-os-native-printing-scanning-app/

I love my Pixelbook. Unlike Windows OS whose updates take over your machine and sometimes for hours if you don't use it frequently. It pretty virus free and I also love that it can be factory reset in minutes if need be

The key there is that it can be factory reset and then restored to your usual setup in minutes!
