Google launched their new Hangout app today that replaces the Talk app. Yet when I look on my device I still have Talk, not the Hangout app. I went into the Playstore and found Hangout app and it just shows "open". Does anyone here ha e the new Hangout app on their One? If so, how did you get it to work?

Go to your browser on whatever device you are using. Open the play store there, search for Google Hangout, and press install. Voila, you now have Google Hangout. This is what worked for me on my Nexus 4.

Not an HTC One problem. Read the reviews... many are reporting this. Legoman's solution worked for me. Did it from my computer's browser.

Installed from my PC here and it worked fine ... looks like a nice messaging app, whether people actually use it is what matters though. There are so many iPhone users out there using iMessage, and competition on other platforms (including Android) from Kik, Whatsapp, Tango, ooVoo, etc. that, as nice as it may be, it may well be too little, too late for Google to have any real impact on what people use for messaging/SMS/video chat.

Worked. Now to find people that actually use it. Most don't even know talk ever existed.

I installed via Google play app then restarted the phone. It replaced Google talk.

It's too bad that it replaced the old app because it's much harder to see which of your contacts is online with the new version.

It keeps wanting to confirm my phone number by sending me a text message. But nothing happens.

I thought it was odd that it wanted your phone number and then nothing happened as well.

For me I pressed verify number and it does it silently without actually showing a text. Went flawless for me.

Hangouts finally confirmed my number this morning. I told it to confirm, got the text message and then nothing for about 5 minutes. Then I finally got a message that said my number was confirmed. Maybe their servers were slammed yesterday.

Now what?

I still cant get it. It says its installed but its still talk. Doing it through the browser didnt work cause its greyed out because it says its already installed...

Likewise, I've tried clearing the cache from Talk and that didn't help, I guess we would need to delete the app and install hangouts to get it to work, A two step process which shouldve been one

unfortunately, the app is locked, so it cannot be deleted without rooting. Just when I was actually okay with not modding my phone.

It says in the description that the rollout is being staggered.
