new happy Note owner

Thanks for all the great comments. I think I need to go play around with the Note again at the ATT store to decide.

And as a sidebar, I'm growing more frustrated with my iPhone. Today when updating apps, after the first downloaded it would not install. I ended up having to do a complete OS restore, which takes about 90 min.. UGH! Time for something new, fast and not from Apple!

Of course when you invest $300 in a phone, you certainly want to feel you've made the right move, LOL.

I paid $300 for my Motorola Atrix when it first came out and I'm by far much more impressed with the Note verses the Atrix. To many the smartphone is no longer a luxury item, it is as essential as a car and $300 for something one uses everyday, multiple times a day is a small investment when one is already spending upto $100 or more a month just for the service.

Today I was in Best Buy contemplating what new tablet to buy. Believe me, the urge was strong but somehow I managed to resist which isn't easy for me.

Since the Note accomplishes so much in an all-n-1 device I decided to just wait it out. Many of us Sprint customers are trolling the web & bugging sales associates for just a glimmer of news.

What I find interesting in the news dept. is everything that's ever been posted about Sprint/Verizon getting the Note is formed more as a question and not anything definite.

I recall reading some "analyst" say both carriers were getting it; but that was so long ago and I can't remember his name.

Out of curiosity, is there anyone here who's NOT happy they stayed with the Note? Somehow, I just can't seem to get as excited as most of you.. I DO notice that it's not as snappy as the Skyrocket or HTC Vivid and I also feel the construction feels a little flimsy for such a large device. Of course I also realize that Sammy had to do this to keep the weight down, but it just feels a bit cheaply made.

While I really don't want to wait until Summer, the anticipation of the GS3 has me thinking it might be the best move.. Or the HTC One X providing ATT gets it close to when Sprint does.

I think in the end what you have to decide is whether you want a smartphone or whether you want an all in 1 device? I disagree with your assessment that the galaxy note feels cheap, but I . understand that's just your opinion.

Based on all of your comments it appears to me that what you actually want is a smartphone and if that's the case the galaxy note is not for you; and that's okay. The galaxy note is more of a device for people that want more than just a smartphone.

Also remember that the HTC One X more closely resembles an iPhone, which might be what you prefer anyway. There is no SD Card slot and the battery is non-removable. I think the people that truly love the Note are the ones that cannot live with something smaller. If you are ok with a smaller device that has a newer OS or is a bit quicker (which might be the case) then you may choose to wait for something new to come out later this year. Are you still in your 30 day window for returns? At least then you have not wasted your upgrade and you can go back to a GS2 or Skyrocket and then wait for the next great device. :)

As DAS pointed out there is nothing wrong with moving on to something else. Heck, that seems like what Android is all about (new devices are just around the corner).

I have to agree. No one phone is perfect for everyone. I also agree that the whole Android environment allows manufactures to continue to push each other further and new technology is developed faster, but I think that's part of the fun. There's always something new next month or next quarter and one has to decide if that next thing is worth waiting for and better then the current available choices.

When the SGSII came out, I though it was cool but not worth the (off contract) upgrade. The same with the SGN. The Motorola Razr got me more excited and the Razr Maxx got me counting the bills in my wallet. The Note got me to actually spend the money. I know that there will be somethine new and very cool within the next 6 months, but currently, I'm very happy with my choice.

Jontalk - I have owned both the Skyrocket and the Note and curious where you see the lags because I have not experienced same. I do know I was unable to get my Skyrocket and BlueAnt S4 to work well together, Vlingo was just not possible I would say things 5 times and not get it right. The Note is a dream. I have the car dock connected right up turns on 'voice talk powered by Vlingo' works as well as if it was built into my car, I rarely have to repeat myself. I know GN works on 2.3.6 and the SR was 2.3.5 when I had it, recently updated to 2.3.6 as well. I don't know if that fixed the bluetooth problems the SR was having. I would not go back to the SR in any case I love the Note. As to build quality I don't see the diff side by side in my hand they look and feel like siblings in most respects

When I had the G-Note, I experienced 2-3 seconds lag when coming back to home screen after being on the browser. It was annoying but not enough to hate the device. I believe there are threads about this issue on xda and androidforums

You folks have all made good points and Moth477 seems to be one here that isn't thrilled with the Note. After all it IS a big screen for a processor that's not any faster than the SR so there's bound to be some lag. Regardless, since I have never had a tablet like most here that bought the Note, I haven't decided whether an all in one is for me. As in anything there are pros and cons. And I still have my iPhone 3G for now, which after restoring the software seems to be working better. But I'm pretty much over Apple. What I DO know is that a larger screen, LTE, Android ICS or better, FAST processor and high quality are what are important.

I suspect the SR HD will be released soon so I'll compare it to the Note and standard SR and then decide. And MBNOCX is right about the HTC OneX.. no removable battery makes it less desirable especially since we all know LTE eats batteries and we have it here in the Bay area. Thanks folks!

You are absolutely wrong. I thrilled with the G-NOTE. I just wish AT&T worked better at my house and work which are the two prominent places I use the device. If I can't get reception there what fun is it? If AT&T had Wi-Fi calling, then I wouldn't mind much when I am home but they don't have that. As for the lag, like I said it was noticeable but not enough to warrant dismissal of the device.

I had lag, too, when returning to the home screen especially if I had turned the phone off. My quick solution was to stay on the home screen when I powered off, but the long term fix was to switch to Go Launcher EX. I no longer have that lag going back to the home screen.

BTW, I am coming from an IPhone 3GS and before that an AT&T Tilt. I really love the Note screen and the ability to do real work on it (remote access and downloads). Movie viewing is perfect when lounging on my sofa with the Note on my chest.

Thanks again guys.. And sorry about the misunderstanding Moth477 :) Everything I hear about Go Launcher EX is great since many people with Sammy's are using it with rave reviews.

ipaqman.. Am curious how long you've had your Note and whether you had friends helping you with the transition from iOS to Android. I get the 'big screen' advantage too..

Like anything, I guess once we get accustomed to something new and different, and it works well, we couldn't imagine going back. When I read some of the other forums, it appears that many of the iOS people that went to Android would never go back, so it's something I'm looking forward to once I pull the trigger on the ideal device.

I bought mine last Saturday. I upgraded from a Captivate. While I had a data plan on the phone (small plan) I rarely used it. I just didn't find looking at things on the web very appealing on such a small screen. If I wanted to update an app I waited til I was home and connected to wifi. Ocassionally, I'd upload pictures to facebook.
I am one who can't fit the Note in her jeans pocket. I tried at the gun range last night. It sticks out too much. I would have preferred to keep it there because the cases I've ordered haven't come in yet. I also have a tablet and a laptop. I bought the tablet (acer a100) in October for the express purpose of upgrading from a Sony Reader and I didn't want to be tied to amazon via Kindle although the fire looked very enticing. My husband is hoping the laptop (currently typing from it) will be relocated to the office (he's got to clean it up first) and be replaced in the living room by my tablet. That could very well happen.
I have been enjoying my Note. As silly as it sounds, the big appeal to me to get the Note is the ability to write a shopping list on it and avoid the hassle of digging around in my purse for the post it note I'd scribbled on earlier. Plus there's the Skyrocket vs Note dogfight on Phonedog. that nudged me towards the Note in just seeing how much better the color on the screen is. And, well, since my Zune's screen crapped out, I need a phone with more than ample battery to be used all workday long as an MP3 player. I must say poweramp has got me spoiled - just plug in headphones and it turns on. I don't have to go to home screen and fiddle with it unless i want to change play lists.

I've had mine since day one of US availability, and I love it. I have no problem carrying it in my pants pocket. even when I do public speaking or teaching. the flip case is a hassle for me so I do not use it. I got a nice tpu case and a heavy duty hybrid case at Amazon for around the house.

I never experience lag except when I turn the unit on after a complete shut down, and that is understandable in that things are still loading up. I also use Go Launcher Ex and have a handful of themes to switch between. I researched all the best launchers, and liked Go Launcher best. I always use live wallpapers -- no problem or lag with any of them, and they never look better than on a Note with 1280 X 800 SuperAmoled.

With widget locker I can even load up the start screen with a handful of useful features without even unlocking the phone -- Camera, flashlight, weather widget, silence, calendar. Totally sweet. Apple fanboys are stuck in the past and think they have something good. It's sad.

Coming from Apple, I am amazed at how powerful, versatile, and usable this device is. Every program is so much more visible and beautiful, and you can customize home screens to provide quick access to information, and control everything with minimal key strokes and widgets. No one helped me with Android. I just did some research on sites like this one, and watched a bunch of You Tubes on everything. I highly recommend doing so.

Someone said you can't do WIFi calls. That's nonsense. Of course you can do WiFi calls, and they do not count on your minutes. And why complain about poor reception in your home, put in WiFi.

The Galaxy Note Rules.
