new harware wizard wont install MTP

I just bought my first smart phone and it is a Motorola droid mini. When I tried to install the software on my PC (XP 32 bit SP3) The device manager appears to have loaded fine but I get a message that the MTP did not install because the required data was not in the INF.

Anyone have any ideas?

It might be that XP hasn't been supported with new drivers for new devices for over 2 years. I bet Windows 7 would work fine.
